Electricity wooes !

Well i am in for cruncing since last month. I keep downloading for 24/7. But downloading does not take processing power. I will like to know how much electricity is consumed on making c2d processors work for 24 / 7 .

Please see that i am planning to use my other obsolete rigs and thats why i am asking this question.

Re: Electricity wooes !

Impossible to answer.

Different hardware, and amounts of hardware (hardware efficiency etc).
The you have to factor in the different electricity supplier costs.

Why not just take a note of your meter reading (assuming you have a meter) and extrapolate the cost after 24 hours crunching.

Welcome to the forums smile

Re: Electricity wooes !

Well i dont have access to meter and all.

Actually i was not asking for total electiricity consumption. What i wanted to know was how much difference it willmake to run c2d 2.33 ghz at 10% usauge (assuming thats we use normally) and at 60% (thats we use while crunching).

Re: Electricity wooes !

Not much difference I imagine.......if a rig is on it's on.
The added draw from running at 100% (or 60% in your case) would be minimal.

Never ran at less than 100% and certainly haven't measured so it's all guesswork.

The inefficiency comes when using older hardware.......modern cpu's and power supplies are much better.

Try it and see I suppose.
