Ugggh, I am wondering if anyone knows how to stop QT from being the program that AUTOMATICALLY grabs any video that I have on an SD Card?! It is driving me crazy. No matter what I try to change it to, it won't.
----------------------------------------I am attempting to use some video footage taken of my ex's band as they practice and get it into Windows Movie Maker. With <grrrr> QT being a bully, none of the footage works in win. movie maker unless I have a converter....OR get a program to open the SD Card BEFORE QT gets it! I am going to make a YouTube account for his band, and want to make some movies to upload. Any other info you need just ask... Thank you so very much ![]() |

Hello Diana G.,
This is something I don't use much. There is probably a better way. Select Start - Control Panel - Tools - Folder Options - File Types then select the particular file type you want to play. It sounds as though you will find that your computer associates that file type with Quick Time. Use the drop-down menu to associate it with something else. Another way is to use a different player, such as Windows Media Player. For WMP, select Library - More Options - File Types and set it as your preferred player for as many file types as you like. All the players have a similar feature. People who are not careful will grant the last player updated control of all the file types. I think that this is what you did while updating Quick Time. Hope this helps. Lawrence |

You also might want to try this, to disable QuickTime from running when your computer starts:
http://www.windowsdevcenter.com/pub/a/windows...ernetannoy.html?page=last I've often found that when qttask.exe starts up, it does not honor windows file associations (e.g. even though .tif files are associated with Windows Picture & Fax Viewer, they open with Quicktime). |

I'm not sure, but I think Quicktime might be one of those programs that detects some other program changing the file preferences and changes it back again.
Try this: Open Quicktime (Player) -- On the pull-down menu, go to: Edit-->Preferences-->Quicktime Preferences Go to the "File Types" tab, and set what file types you want (or don't want) Quicktime to be the default for. (You need to expand the categories to make your selections). Note: There is a checkbox at the bottom to "Notify me if other applications modify these associations." Check or uncheck this according to your wishes. Press "OK" Good luck |
