How does UD and BOINC differ. Does both contribute to same world community grid? Being a new user i do not know much about these client. Does UD is of any specific use?

Yes.
But we are discontinuing UD, so as a new user, you don't even need to know it exists. Soon, it won't. |

Originally the U.D client was the only client....ported over from another project.
----------------------------------------Boinc differs in that with that you can run various projects from the single (boinc manager) interface. Boinc also means you don't have to download new standalone software for any given project you wish to run. It is more flexible and configurable whereas the UD client is ancient and not multi core friendly or anything. UD does not recognise multi core machines...boinc deals with that for you. All aspects of your crunching requirements are user adjustable with boinc. Also, the benchmarking of the UD client is antiquated. All in all Boinc works....UD is a dodo. .... All in all Boinc works....UD is a dodo. Actually, the last dodo was dapper (so is the persisting rumour)
