I noticed that no WCG projects were running after installing the BOINC Agent. The instructions don't cover this possibility, but it's easy to fix: in the Agent under Tools, select Attach to Project... and select World Community Grid. On the next screen just enter your WCG username and password and click the button -- you're attached.
Other postings have mentioned the time allocation for WCG versus BOINC projects; in my case equal settings in BAM (BOINC Account Manager) produced unequal weightings under the BOINC Agent's Projects tab (the BOINC project was 10 times more significant than WCG). I had to weight WCG 10 times as heavily in BAM to produce equal weights in the Agent. |

If you got BOINC from somewhere other than the WCG site, then it won't automatically attach to World Community Grid. I think the assumption is that members who get BOINC elsewhere will already know how attaching works.
WCG still doesn't fully support BAM. |

I obtained the Agent from the WCG website. It's the version that is presently posted. I even tried downloading and installing a second time with the same result.

Some yes, some no.

That may explain it.
Still, when BOINC first starts, it should pop up the "Attach to Project" wizard automatically. |

For whatever reason the popup didn't appear. Perhaps a popup blocker could be part of the explanation, too. In any case it's an easy problem to fix once it's noticed. For those of us who are less experienced it wouldn't hurt to add a few lines to the instructions so that we don't get a false sense of completion.

It's not a popup, it's part of the BOINC Manager program.
I agree, the simplified instructions don't cover all the situations members may find themselves in. |

We are looking at the registration/installation pages and now and will be improving the experience (and therefore the conversion rate).
thank you for the feedback. |
