Hi!
----------------------------------------I am puzzled on a thing here. This is what happens: When my work units complete, the BOINC imediately send the result files to the server, and then the WU is left at 100% complete. But it take a day before the WU is removed from the WU list in BOINC. Meanwhile the Result status of these WU:s are "In Progress". I run mostly FAAH files, and on my slow machines there will not be any secondary connection to the server due to that another WU complete. Sometimes, on faster machines, I can have a short list of 100% complete WU:s. If I then press the update button the WU go away imediately. On my slowest machine, that mostly is close to the time limit when the WU is complete, I am worried about that the last update will pass the WU deadline, even though the server already have the result files. Now, I think about the server! Do the server sit with 286.000 WU:s, waiting for a ping from a BOINC client, so that validation can begin? Or, alternatively, is that some setting so that the 100% WU:s can be removed more quickly? This would ? help the server, and also, as my machines are slow, somone else sitting and waiting for the WU to become complete and validated. If the server went "Pending Validation" right away, when the files arrive, this would possibly be a no-issue. ![]() |

There's been lots of discussion on this, but believe me WCG have fully factored this into the deadline and storage needs to allow best flexibility. Different Members, Different Needs.
----------------------------------------There is a Start Here forum post explaining when the Ready to Report or RtR gets cleared. One condition is that it will be send if it is older than 24 hours. cheers

Yes, I see. I have checked some BOINC groups also. This has been introduced in small steps from the 5.10 version.
----------------------------------------Did this just fine after I set "Connect every x.xxx days" to zero. Under the new BOINC, they just pile up and wait for me to manually "Update". Is there something else that needs to be set? (Paratima) Yes, all the versions after 5.10.13 will sit on the report for a day, regardless of whether you have the CI set to less than that. Personally, I think this is a bad idea. The fact of the matter is when you decouple and set the CI to a value less than the Cache setting, the user has explicitly told BOINC, "No, I DO NOT want you sitting on reports for longer than this amount of time" (among other things). (Alinator) What an annoying change. Does anyone know why this was done? (David Ball) Possibly this will be resloved in some future version , as there seems to be an assuption that a WU is small, and not FAAH 95 hours as I have on the Castor computer. I was just curious why the project server don't validate the WU when results was returned.------- Ready to Report is sent, The New Way: 1. New work is needed. Completed work will be reported at the same time. 2. The Deadline is less than 24 hours away. 3. The Result is less than the Work Buffer setting from it's Deadline (New for v5.4.xx) 4. The Result has been in the Ready to Report status for 24 hours. (New for v5.10.14) 5. Removed in v5.10.14 and later 6. Removed 7. Not used on WCG. ![]() |

Protego, Alinator's comment is just wrong. BOINC will report at the next scheduler request. If the deadline is close, BOINC will start a scheduler request just to report the result.
