BTW - I was unable to find any projects that support the official IA64 Linux platform name of ia64-linux-gnu either, hence I ended up using i686-pc-linux-gnu As I have written in my last mail, SETI and SIMAP supports Linux on IA64. The SETI and BOINC binaries for IA64 are listed on the BOINC and SETI third party site : boinc.berkeley.edu/download_other.php. The SIMAP binaries on the SIMAP Unix download page : http://boinc.bio.wzw.tum.de/boincsimap/appdownloads.php I think, it should be no problem to crunch these two projects parallel with WCG, because they use both the anonymous platfom mechanim and must installed manualy. So it makes no difference, that your system reports as i686. But, pay some attention at the installation. Please install first the binaries and the app_info.xml and then attach to the project. After the attachment, stop the BOINC client and start the BOINC client again with "./boinc_client -update_prefs $PROJECT_URL". |

Thanks very much Dotsch, I'd forgotten the details in your reply. Sorry to make you repeat yourself.
----------------------------------------I found that the IA64 BOINC builds on boinc.berkeley.edu/download_other.php didn't work because they reported the platform to the project server as ia64-unknown-linux-gnu and the project server reported back no support for this platform. Hence the reason I ended up building my own. I particularly wanted to put my efforts towards the help conquer cancer project. Just curious about your problem. I had a problem somewhat similar where my system kept freezing. I corrected the problem by adding the option "noapic" on boot-up. Although it is black magic to me, would it be useful to try adding this option on boot-up as an experiment? Just a thought.

Hi Mark,
----------------------------------------Thanks for the suggestion. I don't have the freedom to reboot the machine at will, and now the machine is working I'm reticent to try and break the BOINC client to test that. It's interesting to hear that noapic solved things for you. If I understand it correctly that turns off the APIC controller. How is everything working out for you Marky? I'm currently in the process of setting up WCG on my Itanium server. So far I have the Boinc client working but no GUI interface. So to speak my brother and I are working on it.
