I'm running UD.exe behind a corporate firewall. To access the internet, we have an IBM HTTP server 2.0.47.1 as a proxy (I tried the same with Apache 2.0.63, makes no difference.)
When creating a new device behind the proxy, I get no connection to the worldcommunitygrid server for the initial registration. On the same machine, where UD fails to connect to the grid server, I can access the http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org pages and login without any problem. I can also access a couple of other http and https pages - (but some other fail with Bad Gateway 502). I did some tracing with Ethereal and noticed, that the UD Agent does a CONNECT and no POST / GET when trying to connect to the server - is that a possible problem? On the proxy machine, I can see that a connection is established to the community grid server, then the proxy sends back the "connection established" to the machine where UD.exe is running - and that's it. No more data exchange to the grid server. When running UD agent directly on the proxy machine, it can contact the grid server without problems. So something seems to be wrong with the proxy settings. I already tried some tricky Apache directives like AllowCONNECT ProxyBadHeader Ignore ProxyPreserveHost on but that doesn't help either. Any idea? Regards, Chris |

Is your port 443 outbound open? The Help section, button right top has some discussion on setup for UD agent.

Have you tried BOINC?
Is there a reason why you are not using BOINC? UD will be discontinued in a few months, so now is the time to switch. |

Is your port 443 outbound open? The Help section, button right top has some discussion on setup for UD agent. Yes, 443 is open. I can access many other https sites from the same machine. And I sometimes get Bad Gateway errors, even on non-ssl pages. That's why I suppose some problem with our firewall / proxy combination. |

Please use BOINC. That will allow us to diagnose your proxy problems much more rapidly.
UD doesn't use SSL, they use proprietary encryption over port 443. |
