Evening all
Thanks for your good wishes. I shall see that they get passed on. Naturally, I now have no Mother to greet but I am sorry that it has become just another commercial occasion with the supermarkets full of expensive flowers. I can remember my first Mothering Sunday when we walked up towards the alter and were given a small bunch of violets to take back to our mother. It was some time later that I had to learn that the celebration had nothing to do with one's mother. It was a special holiday for families to get together for an annual service in the Mother Church to which all the village churches belonged. I have no idea when it was translated into the family mother instead of the church but now we've gone the whole hog and it's an interval before they can sell Easter eggs. End of another Oldie rant. |

Good afternoon all...........
Re; Mothers day (or any other day come to that), the greatest gift is the gift of LOVE, If everyone just once in awhile said to their Mother 'I love you mum' there would be no need for special days. Like many of you, my mum is no longer here, It's too late when they have gone. Take care.......... |

Thanks for explaining, I wasn't ware that it was celebrated that early in the UK. Over here it's the second sunday in May. But the same commercial thing. As a kid I always asked when it was childrensday but no such thing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mother%27s_Day |
