Well, Little Mermaid, the gin and tonic sounds like an excellent idea, and I appreciate your kind offer. I like gin and tonic in the summer when I can pick fresh limes from the tree.
----------------------------------------I did have a Martini last night. Bombay Sapphire and Martini & Rossi vermouth, 5:1, shaken, with a strip of lemon zest. Yum! ![]() I'm sure I'll enjoy the ris à l'amande. I do have maple syrup on hand, and Kijafa is available at my favorite liquor store. Conveniently, I can view their stock on their website. Yes, I think a little Cherry Heering for the ris à l'amande, and a little for the cook, too! I learned that from Julia Child. Years ago, a friend had a bottle of authentic Akavit. I forget the brand, but it was the real thing - had been below the equator and back. I really enjoyed that. Yes, the Irish pennant business was shop talk. More reminiscing, really. You're all set, Comrade Terry, with all the specialties right at your fingertips.
I'm impressed. Bombay Sapphire is what I have now and then. The taste is a little special, but the bottle is attractive. My G&T is nothing but. Maybe I should take it a little further and widen my horizon. The Akvavit you tasted is Norwegian and is called "Linie Akvavit" because it - as you mention - crossed "the line" the Equator. I should have known you liked it. I just gave away an almost full bottle - the first one I ever had - because I did not fancy it too much. May favorite is Aalborg Jubilæumsakvavit (Jubilee Akvavit) - and a few other Danish Akvavits. However, it is a question of taste - the effect is about the same ![]() Maybe your liquor store carries it ... It should be easy to check out on their website ![]() |

Hi all , Sorry Im so slow getting in here. I'm a first time Base Camper, but not a first time traveler. We travel a lot at Team Musketeers. Several of us came in from teams other than Team Musketeers, as you noticed. Hope you don't mind having an old USN'er around

Good Morning ski1939!
- your day starts really early. It is only 0450 or so your time as I start writing this Is that by choice? I notice you live at the same place as another USMC cruncher - cld45 - in Freeport Illinois. Is that a coincidence? It's a fairly small place, and it's well inland from Lake Michigan. And now we come to a brain barrier with me. Marines are water in my head. "How come they both have Navy and Marines? Wouldn't it suffice with one Navy?," I asked my savvy ex. "Marines are not Navy," he explained, using the voice you do to a small child. "They are land soldiers, but they need to sail in order to get to where they are going." Oh! That made some sense. The Mexican wars are a long time ago, and as far as I know the Canadian border is as peaceful as can be apart from a few episodes of 'Trailer Park Boys'. Well, I repeat this to myself: They have to sail ... ... and the Navy people are bolted firmly to their ships, I assume ... Do you have something to add? It is always nice to hear the things from the horse's own mouth. |

I better take this opportunity to close in on the motives
in the background of the mermaid picture ^^^ up there Rosenborg Castle is in the King's Garden nowadays pretty central in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. Construction began in 1606 by our most colourful king ever, Christian IV, whom we owe scores of wonderful buildings. Apart from many other things, he was a pathological builder. Today it is used to display the Royal collections - jewels, some big silver lions and what have you, and the wine cellar actually holds wine from the era of Christian IV. In early spring you will see thousands of crocuses ... it is very pretty. ![]() |

The second item on that mermaid picture is the entrance to Tivoli
----------------------------------------- us Danes just call it Tivoli, others call it Tivoli Garden It is an old amusement park smack in the middle of our capital. You can take all kinds of rides - rollercoasters, caroussels - get all kinds of food - open sandwiches, grilled salmon, hot dogs Danish style, candy floss, you name it - the buildings are enchanting, you can listen to a concert, watch a traditional Pantomime ballet, or applaud the Tivoli Guard boys in their decorative uniforms. By day you will enjoy the flowers from the spring opening until the fall closure, by night you will see thousands of light and before you go home a fine fireworks display. H. C. Lumbye is the composer closely connected with Tivoli Garden He could be called Denmarks answer to the Strausses of Vienna - here is a sample: The Champagne Galop EDIT: I exchanged the potpourri from those old scratchy '78 rpms with a crack perfomance of the Champagne Galop by the Vienna Philharmoic Symphony Orchestra [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 22, 2011 5:24:10 AM] |

The final background motif is Nyhavn - Danish for Newport -
----------------------------------------a dug harbour made in 1671-1673 by Swedish prisoners of war. It used to be a seedy district catering to the sailors' desires, but in recent years the houses have been restored and the numerous cafés and restuarants attract many people - tourists as well as locals who cherish the picturesque setting. The places keep their maritime names such as Shanghai, Kap Horn, The Mermaid, The Cabin ... ![]() These sailor shanties make each and every Dane think Spring: Nu går våren gennem Nyhavn - Now the Spring Walks through Nyhavn and Katinka, Katinka, luk vinduet op - Katinka, Katinka, open your Window Enough of touristy stuff - now I kind of miss the lil' loyly master sunfolk with his big mouth and legal Campaign Cover ![]() - and it would be nice if someone out there in WCGland thought enough of the USMC to become a team member - you just need to click my signature link - and well arrived, click Join EDIT: Exchanged the picture for a smaller one ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 22, 2011 5:37:32 AM] |

I take it you're doers here not dreamers
- people of few words - I hope you don't mind my verbosity Holy Night, Silent Night I would think there ought to be a few more good women and men wanting to join here and help keeping the graph airborne .... ... so to speak - because the U.S. Air Force is still in front on 1 out of 3. |
