Ok I have two computers on the same network both running Boinc. Both were working fine for a number of weeks until yesterday morning one of them failed to be able to upload its completed workunits. The other computer is still working flawlessly.
The computer that works has Windows XP operating system and is running version 5.10.30 of the Boinc software. The computer that doesn't work has Gentoo Linux and version 5.8.15 of the Boinc software. Here is what the message log records when I click "Retry communications": Tue 15 Jan 2008 11:22:49 AM EST|World Community Grid|[file_xfer] Started upload of file ll752_00023_3_0 I have tried stopping/starting the Boinc daemon, restarting my computer, connecting my computer to the internet without a router, and reinstalling the Boinc software. None of that has fixed my problem. I have found other posts on the internet with the error message "Access to reference site succeeded - project servers may be temporarily down", but I have found no conclusive fix. Also, I am able to connect to the Rosetta@home project just fine. I have downloaded workunits successfully. I don't know what the problem is with WCG, but I am unable to contribute to it. Thank you for your help. |

It's probably the next message of your log list that needs focussing on:
----------------------------------------Tue 15 Jan 2008 11:22:59 AM EST|World Community Grid|Scheduler request failed: SSL connect error Did you upgrade the BOINC install (before you went into fixing mode) or make any other change to the Gentoo box?

Yeah I might have made some changes. I have been configuring my Gentoo box ever since I installed Gentoo last month, so it all kind of runs together in my head. So I guess I broke SSL somehow? I don't know what I could have done or where to begin to fix it.

look for posts related to the certificate bundle and a post in the Start Here forum on that topic.
----------------------------------------http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=14222 Often that things goes missing or ends up in the wrong place, though the specific message is not directly pointing at it. Also your port 443 needs to be open outbounds to IP 129.33.89.133+134 (its the HTTPS port) only used by WCG.

thinkcentre ~ # telnet 129.33.89.133 443
Trying 129.33.89.133... Connected to 129.33.89.133. thinkcentre ~ # telnet 129.33.89.134 443 Trying 129.33.89.134... Connected to 129.33.89.134. Well I am able to telnet both of those IPs using port 443, so that doesn't appear to be my problem. My boinc data directory had the file ca-bundle.crt. I even downloaded the one from the thread you linked and replaced mine with it. No go |

Don't know that package though recollect it being recently mentioned (you ?). Dabble around and look for possible entries of BOINC.exe or anything BOINC. Usually firewalls (all the ones i know) pop up a window whenever comms in or out to/from the client is needing permission. One off or Always are frequent options offered. If you find that, find sections in your firewall where you can enter IP 129.33.89.133+134 and link ports 80 and 443 to that. Often firewalls allow to set up groups. Couple that group to the BOINC.exe to allow outward comms to and thru those IP/Ports.
