Locking BOINC client

Hi everybody,

In case I would install the BOINC client, say, in 100 computers in a company, I would like it to be "locked". By "locked" I mean that I would like it to stay in the simple view mode and with all buttons (specially "preferences", "advanced view" and "add project") working only through the use of the password.

My intention here is to keep employer's curiosity from accidentally misconfiguring the client.

Would that be possible?

Regards,

Fabio.

Re: Locking BOINC client

The preferred solution is to install BOINC as a service, and not show any UI to your users.

Please ask if you need further information, or have different needs.

Re: Locking BOINC client

There is a cc_config.xml <options> section line <simple_gui_only>1</simple_gui_only> in case the BOINCmgr GUI is launched. See the mundayweb FAQ for other config settings:

Re: Locking BOINC client

Here's a screenshot and a report of *persistancy* bug. Once doing this, it did *not* kick in until connecting to a remote client that did *not* have the option activated. The bad part, even when switching it off, it did not return the "advanced view" option even when exiting and restarting the client. Worse, when connecting from remote to this client, the remote client also assumed the "simple view" GUI, no "advanced view" option. Effectively, all my clients now have 'Simple GUI' only angry

Leaves me no option, but to restart the core client service itself i suppose.
