confused Retire device installation

How do I retire a particular device installation? Searched everywhere but there's no info anywhere on how to retire a single device.
I was asking so the work units alloted to one of my machines can be allocated to someone else before I retire it from participation. As it is I have 5 device installations to my 3 machines because of a series of unfortunate events ( like hardware failures in 2 of them).
Now I have only 2 and I have to sell off one of them to buy a new system. I'm not worried about my points, just don't want to waste the time the WCG servers will spend waiting for results.

Re: Retire device installation

You don't have to do anything...just abort them and get rid of it...any WUs will be sent to others...

Re: Retire device installation

Hello N@ga and welcome to the forums. smile

If you have time to finish the work units already in your queue:
• go to the Projects tab
• highlight the WCG project
• then in the left-hand column, click on "No new work tasks"

If you don't have time to finish the work units:
• go to the Tasks tab
• highlight a work unit
• then in the left-hand column, click on "Abort"
• repeat for each work unit

Do not worry about the servers waiting for the results. Redundancy is built into the system for reasons like this, plus a myriad of other reasons (power outages, computer deaths, people quitting, etc.)

Thanks. Will finish the work units before selling the machine off.

Re: Retire device installation

If ever one has a large(r) buffer and need to retire/upgrade a device, simply detach from a project(s) while on-line. This will send a message to the servers to invalidate all work 'in progress' so it can be immediately queued for reissue to another user.

Thanks for the info. Sometime this week, I'm going to re-install XP. This way will come in handy.
