confused [Resolved] Use a different HD for file storage?

I've gone through all the menus and the FAQ and there does not seem to be an option to select the path to use for BOINC storage (WIN XP). Am I missing something? I have a relatively small partition dedicated to the OS and all working data is stored elsewhere. Makes it a lot easier to take backups and keeps my primary Windows partition relatively clean and defragged. I'd REALLY like to get BOINC to point exclusively to the F: drive. Any pointers greatly appreciated.

Thanks -- T.Rob

Re: Use a different HD for file storage?

I think the simplest way is to install BOINC there. If your OS partition is just for the OS, that may not be that bad. If you actually have the OS and installled software there with data only on F:, then that may not. I don't recall a simple way to point BOINC data files to a separate location from BOINC itself. It might could be done by doing something you'll get told you DON'T want to do - edit one of the BOINC files that has a reference to that (assuming there's a separate entry just for that). Even if that's possible, any problems and that's the first thing you'd have to change back.

If you have a separate hard drive from the Windows drive, put the windows swap file there. You will get better efficiency for everything, not just BOINC.

Re: Use a different HD for file storage?

Hi T.Rob.

This is on the feature list for the next version. Until then, it can be done (the datadir command line argument), but it's really too much trouble to bother with. I advise you to wait, and install BOINC entirely to the data partition for now.

Re: Use a different HD for file storage?

Thanks, everyone. I will relocate BOINC after my next batch of results completes.

@retsof - DOH! Why didn't I think of that?
