Red dot on Tray Icon

My Tray Icon has a small white circle containing a red square over part of the icon. This, for other Icons, usually means there is a problem with the program, but I can't find anything wrong. What gives ??
I couldn't find anything by searching for "Red Dot on Tray Icon"

Re: Red dot on Tray Icon

Usually, it means that Boinc manager has not made the local connection with BOINC. However, on one of my machines, it hasn't changed for a few days, even though BOINC is running normally.

I wondered about that myself. Check your BOINC advanced view. If it has not connected locally, it will be empty. If you see tasks, you are in good shape. One of them should be running.

In the meantime, the icon for version 5.10.30 is different, and just sits there. It looks like a little gold diamond within a circle with a blue X sticking out of it. HEY! It looks like a Sputnik.

The old icon snooze looks like a white circle with an = sign in it on top of the B in a blue circle icon. When you unsnooze, the regular icon should return.

The snooze for 5.10.30 is also different. There is a very small blue square at the lower right of the icon with a vertical equal sign. sort of like [||] I don't remember seeing a "pending local connect" icon.

Re: Red dot on Tray Icon

I have 5.10.30 version, but the Tray Icon hasn't changed from the green diagonal stripe, except for the white circle and red square which started this thread. Maybe it depends whether the OS is XP (mine) or Vista ?
I do have a couple of tasks running, so all seems to be well.
Thanks for your response.
Merry Christmas to all. smile smile
