Hello Drorion,
Thanks for adding the ps listing. Something is stopping HCC after BOINC starts it. This is a problem for an experienced Linux guru. On Windows I would suspect a security program. On Linux, all I can suggest is trying out other projects, such as FAAH, to see if they act the same way. Does anybody have some useful suggestions? Lawrence |

Hi Lawrence.
I have only one profile for all devices. In the previous posts I talk about my PC with Linux SUSE 9.2. It have Duron-950/512MB RAM. I was try today also FAAH, but there is the same result - CPU is idle. So, I try on another Linux PC. It is Debian "Etch" with also 512MB of RAM, and here it WORKs!! So, my conclusion is that SUSE 9.2 is pretty old for WCG. Tnx for the help. |

Hi Laurence
Took your advice and set performance level at 100%. Downloaded latest version of BOINC. Short work units seemto be ok. latest FAAH has stalled after 2 hours -suspended and resumed everything now O.K. Latest message page attached. I notice that despite resetting preferences to 100% BOINC limit is still 473 MB 23/12/2007 23:36:06||Starting BOINC client version 5.10.30 for windows_intelx86 23/12/2007 23:36:06||log flags: task, file_xfer, sched_ops 23/12/2007 23:36:06||Libraries: libcurl/7.17.1 OpenSSL/0.9.8e zlib/1.2.3 23/12/2007 23:36:06||Data directory: C:\Program Files\BOINC 23/12/2007 23:36:06||Processor: 1 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.00GHz [x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 7] 23/12/2007 23:36:06||Processor features: fpu tsc sse sse2 mmx 23/12/2007 23:36:06||OS: Microsoft Windows XP: Professional Edition, Service Pack 2, (05.01.2600.00) 23/12/2007 23:36:06||Memory: 631.48 MB physical, 1.51 GB virtual 23/12/2007 23:36:06||Disk: 37.26 GB total, 13.43 GB free 23/12/2007 23:36:06||Local time is UTC +0 hours 23/12/2007 23:36:06|World Community Grid|URL: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/; Computer ID: 414485; location: (none); project prefs: default 23/12/2007 23:36:06||General prefs: from World Community Grid (last modified 27-Nov-2007 13:01:59) 23/12/2007 23:36:06||Host location: none 23/12/2007 23:36:06||General prefs: using your defaults 23/12/2007 23:36:06||Reading preferences override file 23/12/2007 23:36:06||Preferences limit memory usage when active to 473.61MB 23/12/2007 23:36:06||Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 473.61MB 23/12/2007 23:36:06||Preferences limit disk usage to 9.31GB 23/12/2007 23:36:06|World Community Grid|Restarting task faah3085_45621_Frag3_CF3_MIN_xmd03000_01_0 using faah version 542 23/12/2007 23:36:32|World Community Grid|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Hello Stormin Norman,
Where do I go from here Try this: My Grid - Device Manager - (profile) Look under Advanced Options - Memory Usage and set 'Use no more than: 75 % of memory while computer in use Use no more than: 75 % of memory while computer idle' to 100%! Betcha that will fix it! Uhh . . . maybe, Lawrence |

Stormin Norman, I notice you have a preferences override file. This is created when you change your preferences using BOINC Manager, and it overrides the settings you select on the web.
Clear the override file using BOINC Manager, or delete it manually. |
