Hi Again,
I've just noticed a difference between two of my machines. One is the one above and the other a Pentium D with 2G RAM running Ubuntu 7.10. Both machines run the 64Bit Ubuntu. The Pentium is running as you would expect. 100% CPU load, the CPU time updating about every second. My Core2 had visual effects turned on ("normal" setting) whereas the P-D did not. Boinc Manager would not update the CPU time and would take several seconds to switch between tabs and the window would grey over like as if a screen saver was kicking in even if I was actively using the mouse and clicking on tabs etc. The greying over would take several seconds to go away and then it would come back again. A reboot did not solve any of these or the above problems. I have since turned off the visual effects and done a reboot and this has improved the situation. CPU load is now 100% and has been for 30 mins. The CPU time updates but rather erratically. I don't get the greying over of the window but switching tabs can be slow. So, maybe it's a conflict with the Ubuntu Desktop on my Core2. This machine has more installed software than the P-D, so I could have inherited a problem this way too. Anyway, the main thing is to have 100% CPU usage so I'm happy if still curious. All the best, -- Zoot |

You keep aborting units. Please stop. We can't help if you've already killed the units involved. Next time this happens, please leave the work unit alone, and describe exactly what you see, including the output from top and any relevant messages in the BOINC message log. Is BOINC running as an init.d service, or are you starting it manually, either from the command line or by starting BOINC Manager? Thank you. OK need to stop aborting WU, will do. My Pent 4 2.8 ghz tower is on 24/7 I restarted BOINC manager from the KDE drop down menu on Friday 4.20 AM after a power cut.
Dell Pent 4 2.8 ghz 2048 Mb RAM quad boot:- Win XP, Mandriva 2008, Ubuntu and Kubuntu 7.10

Here we are 3 years later. Same problem. I get a string of downloaded WU's; starts to run 1 or 2 seconds, then stops. I've reset the projects after a message that says "..if this continues to happen, reset." I have a few times; I've reinstalled BOINC Manager software 6.10.58 on Mac Intel Core2 Duo. I've rebooted the computer.
Don't know what else to do. Been this way for 2 days after running fine for months. Any suggestions? Please? ![]() |

I just 'diddled' with the default preferences and now the WU is running normally. I did not change earlier settings that were running and I assumed the default settings after reinstalling BOINC Mgr would run. Apparently not! Who knew? :-( But I'm back in business.
