I now have 2 work units that started off, consumed CPU as normal, got to 01:46 and then just sat there not progressing or consuming any more CPU.
I aborted one thinking that it just may have been corrupt, but the next one did exactly the same thing! Hello dcstar,
Puzzling. You can check the quorum for these results using the Results Status page. Are they completing normally for other members? Lawrence |

It may be that Bx%&@ng Disk pref again:
----------------------------------------Fri 14 Dec 2007 14:19:56 EST||Memory: 1.91 GB physical, 486.30 MB virtual Fri 14 Dec 2007 14:19:57 EST||Preferences limit disk usage to 0.93GB 2 concurrent DDDT's can run into 700mb+ VM use or so and at 75% permission, the wall is hit at 697.5mb. The message log or the Tasks window should say something.... maybe 'waiting for memory' or similar. At any rate, seeing 5.10.8 version, suggest upgrading to the 5.10.21 version as provided on the WCG download page and setting the local prefs for VM and % use a little higher like 2gb.

12/14/2007 8:38:42 PM||Memory: 3.00 GB physical, 7.34 GB virtual Even with lots of memory and disk available, I occasionally see a "waiting to run" task that had consumed only a few minutes. If it only says "waiting to run", there is no need to abort it. I will also see that if other projects than WCG are in the queue. I have another that has 36% completion, and simply says "waiting to run". When more resource time is allocated, it will run some more or complete.12/14/2007 8:38:42 PM||Disk: 186.30 GB total, 159.09 GB free I am trying to remember whether another thread said that the short times were due to BOINC running some short benchmark "tests" on the tasks. I think I saw about 3 in succession, all waiting to run, and one eventually kept going.

Could be or your version is not up to snuff. Sometimes BOINC was looking for the shortest jobs if several were on equal deadline. The 5.10.30 version of WCG fixes that.

Possibly, but thought that bugs were still being chased in 5.10.30 at WCG. I am still sitting at 5.10.7 which generally is working. The last message in the 5.10.30 beta thread is your good news/bad news message. https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=17203 5.10.28 is still the newest production Berkeley version.

That's a Vista specific issue and only occurs when having a single user install and signing out (was able to replicate that in admin mode).
----------------------------------------Had not read the Checkin log for a while and from what I see, the development has firmly moved into the 6.x Alpha, so the WCG 5.10.30 release is pretty much it I think (there's one more bug left related to the UD agent uninstall part on W2K (?) with only 1 report).

I haven't yet decided whether to put XP or Vista on a new computer which is not yet built. SP1 for Vista may fix a few problems.

dcstar: any update on your problem? My PC processes all other BOINC work ok, I'll probably see if these work units behave better next time any are downloaded for processing. |
