I just upgraded to an Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Black Edition with 2 Gb of PC6400 ram. I just installed Boinc and I used that routine with the slider bar to adjust the CPU throttle to 100% but in the Windows XP task manager the CPU usage is bouncing from about 29% to 72%. How do I get both cores up to 100%?

The slider thing is for UD only.
For BOINC, change your preferences (online is best). |

Also, I did the entire upgrade for about $250. 2 Gb PC 6400 memory, after rebate $31.50. 500 watt Coolermaster power supply after rebate $16, GeForce 6200 LE PCIe video card $50 with a $50 rebate, AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Black Edition plus ECS motherboard $179.99 (a really good deal, the processor alone sells for $225 and the motherboard for $70). I already had a case, monitor and a 400gb SATA II hard drive. Now it takes about an hour to do one of those DDDT work units and about four hours to do the cancer and aids work units.

I would have expected better. 2.4GHz AMD single cores here are doing DDDT also in about an hour.
----------------------------------------The X2 6400+ stock speed is 3.2GHz. Is BOINC throttling still on, or is something else taking part of the CPU?

No, but my CPU temperature was just over 160F. I just went out and got a far better heat sink and fan, a Thermaltake V1 , part number CL-P0401. Costs about $50. All copper with the air/fan blowing across the heat sink and not down onto it. Lots more surface area on the heat sink. This might help a bit.
----------------------------------------I just checked the CPU temp. At full fan speed using the Thermaltake V1 the Athlon 64 X2 6400+ is at 109F-117F at 100% processor load. I have the 120 mm front panel fan blowing into the computer. I have the Thermaltake V1 blowing towards the back of the computer towards the back 90mm fan (which is blowing air out of of the computer). Here is a link for the specs on the Thermaltake V1. Very interesting: http://thermaltakeusa.com/product/Cooler/Retail/Cl-P0401/cl-p0401.asp [Edit 7 times, last edit by Former Member at Nov 28, 2007 12:42:36 AM] |

I am now doing DDDT work units in about 35 minutes. DDDT tasks are just like all WCG projects in that they vary by each task. I checked my DDDT results on a X2 6000+ for the last 30 days with the quickest 22:41 and slowest 1:26:25. The majority of tasks fall in the 35 to 55 minute range, so you should see numbers similar to that. |
