Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Oh, it's beautiful, Wishbone.
The lines in my combined picture ^^^ are due to a transmitting glitch between me,
Photobucket and here, I think. They were unlined when leaving me. I'll try to redo.

Do you eat eel in England?
I think the Americans find it ghastly, and regard eels as snakes.
In fact the meal last night was delicious no end.
Eel are caught in many ways. Line and hook, traps and with a special tool called "eel spear".
That is mainly used by night, as you slowly drifted in your dinghy with a lantern in the bow and the spear lifted ready spike.
Eel spears had to be made in a special way, and the blacksmiths had to be very skilled to
balance the properties of strength and plyability.
The legislation as to catching eel this way is complicated, but it's still allowed in some places.

EDIT:
USAFA 82, thank you for joining Trek #28
- you are not visible there, yet, but you'll be soon

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Our waters don't have a lot of eels. Plus there was a generation coming home from war who remembered when the eels had lots of human food sources due to ships sinking... Has a tendency to put people off!

Given the number of orange seedlings sprouting on my porch, I may need to start calling it "the orangery" soon!

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

eel: It would definitely turn me off as well having seen it, GP.
So, when will you snap your garden? We wouldn't mind watching the development
- we missed a lot already, you know.
Good Morning Base Campers
Trek # 28 Texas is running far better than expected.

deltavee, the team owner rushed home,
cswchan, T.G.Wakko, and little mermaid had a head start, but were soon joined by
TLD, fulfilling his promise,
densnaps turned into Wishbone decided to Base Camp for real, and that was pleasant news,
PecosRiverM rode in from the Dallas/Ft.Worth area with his saddle bags full of results to unload,
USAFA 82 flew in from Colorado Springs (did you get that beer upon arrival?) and then we had the gift of
jan649 joining (having recovered from being stalked by Ghost Plane, she now having Texans on the table),
and another rare bird,
Troy614 came down from Southwestern Pennsylvania.
All of you: Thank you very much.
Of course, we have room for more tents and hope they will be pitched but actually:
This group already exceed my expectations by a factor two.

Let have some special music for the occasion that phonetically tells the story of the railroad trip
from Copenhagen to Roskilde - the first stretch of railroad in Denmark opened in 1847.
The accompanying pictures are from that very København (Copenhagen)-Roskilde leg.
The composer is H. C. Lumbye, sort of Denmark's answer to Austria's Strausses:
The Copenhagen Railway Steam Gallop
While we're at it, let's take one more:
Champagne Gallop
And to balance it off, one more of USA's fabuluous jazz singers, Shirley Bassey:
Light My Fire
Light My Fire

You better gallop than trot to Base Camp to become
our Newest Camper and mount Trek #28 - Texas - right away

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Afternoon Base Campers
Since yesterday we were joined by rwillis, so altogether we are 11 at this time. So much better than hoped for.
Also, a friend of mine is contemplating to join, so it's happiness across the board.
PecosRiverM felt the gentle hint of my flagpole and served up some decent grub:

Thank you!
Now, we only need some water, Coca Cola with cream for Olivia when she hopefully turns up,
beer for deltavee and USAFA 82, Gin&Tonic for little mermaid
and the rest of the Motley Crew better express their preferences themselves.

Yesterday we had a nasty thunderstorm that made the sky surreal:

This may be nothing to you with really serious weather, but still we had a high
Lightning count

Today I hope to avoid embarrassment like the one yesterday, where I mistook
Welsh Dame Shirley Veronica Bassey for American.
We'll have some French - first Boris Vian who writes the President and argue why he doesn't feel like going to war:
Le Déserteur
second Jacques Brel who is in fact Belgian trying to persuade his beloved not to leave him;
you gotta admit he puts his soul into it:
Ne me quitte pas
third Mireille Matthieu with her captivating voice:
Un homme et une femme

You don't have to know French to join Base Camp
- a knack for crunching and enjoying friendship will do
so we invite you to be our Newest Camper and join Trek #28 - Texas - right away
- we'll leave some food for you
Bienvenu!
