![]() As Dennis is my real name I have always been "Dennis the Menace" The companion dog is Gnasher The previous avatar I have had for sooooo long I felt like a change,it Came from the weekly comic book The Beano. Dennis and Gnasher (previously known as Dennis the Menace and Gnasher and Dennis the Menace) is a long-running comic strip in the British children's comic The Beano, published by D. C. Thomson & Co., Dundee, Scotland. The strip first appeared in issue 452, dated 17 March 1951, and is the longest-running strip in the comic. From issue 1678 onwards (dated 14 September 1974) Dennis the Menace replaced Biffo the Bear on the front cover, and has been there ever since. Five days earlier, on 12 March 1951, another comic strip coincidentally named Dennis the Menace debuted in the United States. The two strips should not be confused — as a result of this the US series has been retitled Dennis for UK consumption, while the British character's appearances are often titled "Dennis and Gnasher" outside the UK. I remember the tv series and the Film starring Walter Mathieu as Good ole Mr Wilson |

Thanks for the background info, densnaps.
To the best of my knowledge, Dennis & Gnasher never made it to Denmark (at least not in publications I had access to), whereas I enjoyed the American Dennis the Menace for years no end in a major Danish daily. Funny dog, that Gnasher! ![]() |

Yes.
You and Rhode Island Red is what RI is famous for. What a beautiful specimen you have found there, densnaps. My grandparents had such a lovely one called Elizabeth. She was kind of my petting hen. I loved her - but suddenly she wasn't there any more. Turned out she was served for supper! Ever since any kind of meat from any kind of poultry has turned me off, and I only eat it when I must be polite and behave. |

Oh dear! NEVER name anything that's for eating or eat anything that's named.
Aunt Lara's birds were so vicious I cheerfully chowed down. And don't start me describing her attack geese. |

Oh dear! NEVER name anything that's for eating or eat anything that's named. Good rule, GP. But I was only a trusting 5-year old, and come to think of it, haven't developed a lot since ... Aunt Lara's birds were so vicious I cheerfully chowed down. And don't start me describing her attack geese. So you still like poultry, I assume, especially geese. Merry Christmas! |
