---------- Do you know that penguins served as a model for airliners profiles? When one thinks of these species, one imagines them waddling on the ice floe, or in a cartoon costume. But they have an aerodynamic profile, which makes that under water, are real rockets, for a minimum of effort. They get to jump at 4m high, just with their speed, and for a minimal energy expenditure. And question of curiosity, is it in your languages (not the case in English), you make the difference between penguins and "manchots"? It's a subtlety of French, penguins implies that it is an animal from the northern hemisphere, while "manchots" are in the southern hemisphere. Very often, we use one or the other without paying attention, but if we are rigorous, there is a difference. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at May 23, 2018 4:10:54 PM] |

Hmmm, he didn't answer me... That's because you knocked on the front door, I think, Fossaw I used the backdoor ![]() - the formula on his website. ![]() Why? Because it was evident to me that this man's passion was photography, and I deducted he would pay attention to any mail coming from his website ![]() What is it with Germans and photography? I remember 'talking ' with cruncher RoundFour from Allgäu, Germany in December and I visited his website |

To me, the only penguins close to the equator are those I saw in the Galapagos, which, according to some, are a seperate species. All others are South. There are no penguins in the Arctic, there are birds that resemble somewhat penguins, stand upright, swim dive catch and eat fish, these are Auks. Razorbills, Guillemots that kind of thing, they look somewhat similar but can fly. Some of them fly great distances. The South West coastline of Africa is also washed by a cold current, the Benguela current, but I've not seen penguins on the South African or Namibian coast, although I have not travelled in the extreme South of the continent.
----------------------------------------At Cape Cross on the Namibian coast there was an absolutely enormous colony of fur seals. Approaching from inland, the smell started to hit you several km from the beaches! [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at May 23, 2018 6:07:23 PM] |

These words are, unfortunately in my opinion, not used much any more. I guess that means...not needed? ![]() |

Good Afternoon Base Campers!
Shop talk We are pretty much fanned out in all directions. The Danish faction went to the penguins. The fact that Fossaw and I are not on the Falkland Islands shall not be allowed to disturb our imagination of being there. We have both been to Ushuaia, and Fossaw has seen penguins as far north as Galapagos. I, on the other hand met a little yellow airplane in the Dakota Territory Air Museum in Minot, North Dakota. It had Ushuaia written on it. I may very well have been this one I would not call this trip to not the Falklands a trek. Besides we’re not in the South Atlantic but in Münster, Westphalia, Germany, best known for being the place where my German teacher studied German and Dutch. Secondly it's known for being the place of the Peace of Westphalia (along with Osnabrück). That peace accord ended the 30-year-war in Germany/Europe and the 80-year independence war in the Netherlands were ended. They had very long wars. ![]() May in the City Walked downtown to a lunch appointment. I just cannot believe this May weather. My new friend agreed; she had never seen anything like it in her one-year-shorter-than-mine life either. You may be tired of my pictures, but you're under no obligation to KLiK them, of course. 1. 20180523. Saint Peder's Church, the biggest of Næstved's two middle age red brick churches. It was mentioned as early as AD1135 and found its present look in AD1375. It is regarded one of Denmark's finest Gothic structures. 2. 20180523. The Suså, the island of Zealand's largest river, ran underground for many years and had it's estuary in the harbor. Before that it was navigable and was an important means of transportation. Now it is opened up to serve as a breathing hole. 3. 20180523. Kompagnihuset was built in AD1493 and is the oldest preserved guild house in the Nordic countries. It also served as a warehouse and it had apartments. 4. 20180523. The altar apse of Saint Peder's Church. 5. 20180523. In many places the city gardeners have made attractive plantings such as this. |
