Hello byspeed, Here is a quote from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_for_PlayStation_2 the small amount of memory in the PS2 (32MB) limits its applications. Lawrence PS3 has only 256MB of RAM, and it still can run the F@h! so PS2 can be bouilt with the Linux...and if the BOINC won't work with only 32MB RAM, then the PS2 can be run as a cluster computer / Linux slave... http://www.g4tv.com/screensavers/features/44404/PS2_Supercomputer.html http://www.cse.ust.hk/cssystem/henry/ps2linux/index.html http://arrakis.ncsa.uiuc.edu/ps2/cluster.php |

Cause i dont want to buy a Kit, or just the network adapter, and then a HDD, and afterwards my PS2 wont work/isn“t able to run BOINC as service, and dont use the motion engine? Greetings Jan |

you have to install the Linux & set it up as slave! and the core2duo has to be master Linux with BOINC...
----------------------------------------then the PS2 will compute everything you send him...and you have to configure to send him the BOINC data for crunching (don't know how that will be done? - so for that you need BOINC developers)! you can put the Linux RedHat on PS2...or any other Linux listed in links i provided you! and even though the core2duo want be doing much crunching, 'cause of the collecting&sending data...the PS2 will crunch for you... note in text that you will need the 1Gb ethernet router for that later when you put more PS2 for crunching! and the BOINC now can do a calculation how fast is your computer now! in Advanced Mode go Advanced -> Run CPU Benchmard... usually they say (on the internet) that you will have 1GFLOP per PS2...so you can expect sthg like that?! |
