Fire up Task or Process Manager and have a look what is eating your CPU time. Pay attention to the 'Idle Process' counter and if that has hi or low value. Do you run BOINCmgr to start up the BOINC worker or have you got a service install?
----------------------------------------For Vista discovered that services don't have any CPU usage indicator any more in TaskManager (who was asleep in Redmond), so i actually use Process Explorer to monitor if the BOINC sciences get actual CPU time and how much. Added: reference the previous paragraph, starting TaskManager in Administrator mode will show the sciences when running BOINC as service. Easiest to do this is creating a shortcut and ticking the "Start as Administrator" box. With UAC you will be nagged to consent.

Hi, Sekerob
I do use Vista with dual core 3800+. CPDN was operating normally. However, when I tried opening Task Manager, I got an Error message and couldn't. I then tried doing a restart which wouldn't work. Nor would close, so obviously something had locked up. In the end, I switched off and started again and BOINC restarted with the WU CPU time 3 minutes back. It has now reached 84%, so something must have locked up the core that was running HPF, but all seems fine now. Regards Mike ![]() |
