confused Is the BOINC going to utilize video card resources?

Hi!
The topic's name is the main question.
I like the idea of using my video card as a computational booser for the work like BOINC does. But the only project doing this at the moment is F@H. Is it gonna be BOINC too?

Well no. WCG would love to, but it only gets projects delivered and hosts them *for free* on it's grid! This Help Article describes in brief the position, games consoles and video cards no different so is my understanding.

Re: Is the BOINC going to utilize video card resources?

Does it mean that utilizing video card is the issue that belongs solely to the internal code of the "project" software running through the BOINC?

Could be BOINC managing the F@H project as well?

Re: Is the BOINC going to utilize video card resources?

Hello Maximus_G,
The OS provides support for applications running on the CPU. If you run on a GPU, you have to provide these supporting functions some other way. Right now, there is not a standard way of doing all this. If you want to use your GPU, check the Folding@Home site to see if your GPU is on the list.

There is BOINC on PS3Grid http://www.ps3grid.net/, but at this time it's still very much frontier development.

BTW, the marketing hoopla at times is phenomenal. They speak of single core PC comparison, 16x, nothing how it compares to the much more efficient duo or quad, who do multiple jobs in parallel!

Re: Is the BOINC going to utilize video card resources?

No (except to view the graphics, but that's hardly a demanding application).
