center of the universe

anybody Know where it is.Statistically if all the data on receeding or advacing galaxies are fed into a fairly simple program the result would tell us where it is,google failure or not. Cheers.

Re: center of the universe

The centre of the universe is approximately 'x' light years from our current position, given that the path is empty, pure vacuum, which is in constant motion anyway, where 'x' refers to the qauntifiable denomination of statistic fractal (censored: blah blah blah) in decimal places accurate to a significant figure of pi to a power of pi c sqaured. biggrin biggrin

I am afraid to say that our scientists are all wrong regarding this as they fail to understand the above principle, and thus humanity is once and for all, doomed.

What I am trying to say here is that you should not believe anything you hear online at face value even if it comes from a credible source with suitable qaulifications and is spiked with impressive technical jargon because it is basically, mostly, and eventually, crap. Because the sum total of information available across the internet is 29% spam, 70% opinionation, and 1% fact.

biggrin

(I'm sorry if I ruffled the hair of anyone here holding a Doctors of Astronomy title. Won't happen again, I promise, if you convert to the religion of Frisbeetarianism, and mail me proof of that biggrin )

cool Re: center of the universe

General Relativity describes the universe as a 4-dimensional manifold. This does not rule out additional dimensions. Manifold means that the dimensions are not truly independent of each other. Anyway, the origin is no longer within our 3-space. A crude analogy is the surface of a spherical balloon, which was once at the origin (the centroid of the balloon) before it was blown up. There is no point of the balloon's surface that touches the origin. Similarly, no point of our 3-space touches the origin of the universe. That is the theory, anyway. The truth is likely to be even more complicated than General Relativity. But current theory does not define any special point or direction in the universe. It is all expanding.
Added: In the case of the balloon's surface, if light follows the surface (curves) then an observer on the surface would see a flat 2D surface with everything rushing away from him as the balloon expanded. Obviously the observer is standing on the origin. The same illusion should work in our 3D space. Calculation should prove that we are at the center of the universe. And this same illusion should prevail no matter where we are. 2 qualifiers: First, IF our current theory of General Relativity is a good approximation of the truth. Second, local variations of density (gravity) will affect our calculation of just where the center is. But we should be close to the computed center of the universe, no matter where we are.

Re: center of the universe

Current theory is that the centre is somewhere in Long Island, NY, USA.

IE *I* am the centre of the universe! laughing

Re: center of the universe

Hmmm... we need a new nanosupercomputer to verify these claims.

IBM! Off you go to build another one! biggrin
