oh well - it is still reporting same errors - and an allocated daily quota down to 2 a day now - so shall give up on this as no results valid.

Hold on, we did not give permission to give up so quick! smile

Can you restart BOINC and select/copy/paste/post the full message log, so we can see your system specifics. Also, go to BOINC program directory and find the global_prefs.xml and global_prefs_override.xml and post the content.

Re: new PC - weird error "incorrect function"?

Looks like we're getting closer to identifying the problem, sort-off. The 1073741819 is somewhat of a give-away to a client side error.

Are you overclocking maybe? If so, set back to stock for now.
Will you please set your <cpu_usage_limit>60.0</cpu_usage_limit> to 100 (BOINCmgr, advanced menu, Local Preferences, processor usage tab)

That your daily quota got cut to 2 is as you'll have surmised a result of sending in too many errors. This following FAQ will lead you along an extending path of other items to check:

Let us know of your findings.

applause Re: new PC - weird error "incorrect function"?

Thank you for your help

I have set the cpu usage limit to 100 but will have to limit it to overnight now as I need to utilise this PC more.

I have not altered the speed the pc is running at - so no overclocking issues.

I will work through the list you pointed me at and see whether there is anything else that could be an issue

I will update - possibly tomorrow when I know whether the daily quota starts climbing.

many thanks

Diana, this is weird. Possibly its a default time of a preference set that was never altered. Suggest you go to the website and ensure the device is attached to the desired profile (Which?). Also for sake, if it's the default profile, open it, and alter something selecting 'custom profile and save, set the profile back to before the alteration and save again. That will ensure the settings get transmitted to the client on next contact.

ci vediamo, a dopo

Re: new PC - weird error "incorrect function"?

Good morning, Sekerob smile

I should have added normansfletcher's name to the quote. That line is from his messages and I was wondering if that had contributed to his problem.

I hope it is all resolved for him now :-)
