Hi all,
I just installed the BOINC agent in 2 different PCs and navigated through the options it has and I didn't find one that (at least for me) was kind of interesting since one of the PCs is a dual core. I wanted to define different % of processor usage for screensaver and regular agent, since I don't do much heavy work on the PC I could have the agent working in the background. Is it possible, or is this a request for a new feature? Thank you all! |

BOINC runs at the lowest possible priority, so it won't interrupt your work however much CPU it is using.
However, sometimes WCG will want to use a lot of memory, and you will want to use that memory yourself. To avoid this slowing you down, there are separate options for memory use while idle and while in use. They are in the preferences in the advanced view - WCG have not added these preferences to the website yet. |

The agent is already very much working in the background and on my C2D nor the single cores really don't notice it at all, set to using 95% of idle cycles, all the time by using 3rd party utility. The BOINC CPU usage control itself in my opinion does not hack it. Setting it 100% or 50% are the 2 only viable options, without the ventilators switching on and off all the time, particularly on laptops a serious nuisance.
