Are there any posts on optimizing your system for max efficiency for WCG? I've looked around a couple of times and haven't seen a thing.
A long time ago a person posted a web page on how to optimize for SETI that had many good ideas, but it's gone now. Anyway, I don't know if SETI optimizations would work the same for WCG. ????? |

David,
Some quick fixes: 1. Check your device profile online - make sure it's set to run all the time, and that the hard drive space allocated is 10GB 2. Shut down applications running in the background if you're not using them 3. Add more RAM to your computer 4. Take more coffee breaks These are the obvious (non-technical) changes to make... We hope to have a FAQ section soon that will address these and other questions posed by forum members. |

Defragmenting your hard drive generally works for slightly optimizing everything you run off it, including the grid agent.
If you have insufficient memory and experience lagginess while moderately multitasking, and have plenty of hard drive space, it is advisable to allocate more virtual memory for pagefile usage, because on the computers I run the agent, it takes up 200mb of virtual memory, and roughly 25mb of ram. |

Dave, seti@home info IS applicable here as well as the above advice.... search on drives and flash , RAM drives and by all means Defrag,Defrag,Defrag [ esp w/ symantic/Norton 'Speed-disk'] but optimize w/ more than one[1] giga - monster DISK ! they slow down to millisecoundz! swap/pagefile [besides Enumerating processors] are most important ps search Folding.Stanford.EDU for other Tips! pss: I have been leaving my machine w/ ROSETTA at HIGHER 'Priority' in the 'Task manager' and gone to "SWITCH" userid to the 'Idle' "Welcome Screen" runs great this-a-way .

pss: I have been leaving my machine w/ ROSETTA at HIGHER 'Priority' in the 'Task manager' and gone to "SWITCH" userid to the 'Idle' "Welcome Screen" runs great this-a-way . Of course, you'll want to be careful if you change the priority of Rosetta... If you set it higher and run other CPU intensive programs, it can lead to program (and possibly OS) crashes. It's probably okay if you're just running the Welcome Screen. |
