is it possible to change the hdd that i am using as 'storage'. i have set my maximum storage to 8gb but because my c drive (where wcg agent is installed) is getting full im not getting a very good overall device score. do i have to install the agent on another drive to solve this problem.
also r u sure that the whole device performance thingy is workin ok coz my ocd 2.0ghz duron is gettin a score of 198 |

Yes you will have to install it on another drive to be able to extend your disk allocation to 10Gb and get the most credit for it. However, you don't actually need that space for the current project so it is your call. also r u sure that the whole device performance thingy is workin ok coz my ocd 2.0ghz duron is gettin a score of 198 I would not complain with a score of 198! i was not complaining about the score it just seens a bit high coz ive heard poeple say that a 3.0ghz p4 is suppost to get about 200 and i know for a fact that my cpu is nowhere near that fast.

The Overall Device Performance score is capped at 200. At 198, there is not much improvement possible for you.

My Intel P4 3.02 Ghz HT machine gets 207 normally. You can look up what your processor should get HERE Due to differences in chip architecture, Ghz on an AMD processor is not equal the Ghz on an Intel Processor in terms of floating point performance and therefore are not comparable on a Ghz basis. Hope this makes sense. Regards ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by RT at Jan 30, 2005 11:54:41 PM] |

My Intel P4 3.02 Ghz HT machine gets 207 normally. Hmm... my P4 3.02 Ghz HT overclocked to 3.2-3.4 Ghz gets 176 normally, 181 if I'm lucky. *scratches head* That 30 points is a rather huge gap... (It's not the benchmark thing having competition; I can name every single process and their CPU requirement that runs when the grid agent runs, no other programs allowed, especially when it's preparing to return results or starting a new unit, no questions asked.) As long as my work units keep getting crunched, I've no complaints, I'm used to it, but this is minorly puzzling. *pokes RT* Some analysis, sir, if you will.. |

You can change the amount of HD space used there... also, the amount of RAM in your computer makes a difference in your device score, as does the work that the computer is doing when it uploads WUs (the time when your score is calculated). If you're playing a computer game, or running a bunch of programs that require CPU cycles when a WU uploads, then your score will be lower. Also, I have a 3.02 GHz P4 w/ 512MB RAM that is about 30 points lower than my 1.59 GHz Centrino w/ 1GB of RAM. So, if you (or anyone else) has the money to buy more RAM and you want a higher score... that'd be the way to go. |

First lets make sure that we are talking about the same thing. I quoted my 3.06Ghz processor at 207. That is the Porcessor Score. The Overall Score for the machine is 188. Are you talking about "Overall"? |

Can I ask a question?
What is the benefit if I enlarge the disk space for chrunching? Would it speed up the calculation? |
