Since you use Vista, I suggest you take a walk on the wild side and try the upgraded agent. It is designed to install and work better on Vista. Go here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/reg/viewRegister.do

Re: exit code 3 (0x3)

Seems an actual file is missing (similar report at another project) which is rare but could have occurred during a download glitch. Strange though, but given that you run Vista, suggest you pick up the newly released WCG version of BOINC 5.10.22 which is slightly more adapt to Vista.

http://boincdl.ssl.berkeley.edu/dl/wcg_boinc_5.10.22_windows_intelx86.exe

Added: At yet another projects suspicions continue to aim at a local glitch. One observation was:
This can happen if a virus software is running and locking the files while it is being read/written. You should try to have your virus scanner ignore scanning the BOINC and it's sub folders.

Have you been running BOINC on Vista long?

Re: exit code 3 (0x3)

That's poor advice you're quoting, Sekerob. Executable files downloaded from the Internet are very high risk. World Community Grid virus scan at source, and require an encrypted connection - not to mention the secure datacenter.

Other projects are not so secure. Scan, be safe.

jgis, if your virus scanner does cause problems, try a better scanner and report the problem here so we can try and track the problem and get the antivirus company to fix it (not that they ever do, but it's the thought that counts).

What part as at times, think something got lost in translation.

The link of the file is the one from the WCG download page btw.

Re: exit code 3 (0x3)

I have installed the BOINC 5.10.22. I have also configured My virusprogram NIS 2008 to skip the c:\BOINC folder in autoprotect scan. I trust that downloded filses from wcg are safe.

Hopfully will this solve my probem. Of my 21 last WU all have ended with exit code 3 (0x3) exept for one that ended with exit code -805306369 (0xcfffffff).

If everything goes well I will undo the autoprotect skip and see if that changes anything.

Been on Vista since 23rd of september.
