After a system crash I no longer have the grid agent

My system reciently crashed and I had to reload OEM and get updates (sp1, sp2, ect) almost everything is now back to norm. I've tried to reload the WCG and it seems to have loaded but it is no longer my screen saver nor can I find it to set it as such. Prior to the crash it showed in my sys tray but no longer. How do I return to packet processing?

Re: After a system crash I no longer have the grid agent

Sounds like all traces of WCG have been erased by the OEM reload. Sounds like it probably formatted the drive.

That being the case, you will need to download the agent again just like you did the first time. This time when it starts to register...click that you are already a member. It will not let you use the same agent name. I suggest that you just add a 1 at the end of the agent name to help you keep track over time. e.g. if it was "RayMachine" make it "RayMachine1".

As long as you check the box (current member box) when it registers, it will go back into your team.

Good Luck.. Let us know if you have problems with this.
Regards.

Re: After a system crash I no longer have the grid agent

It's back. I re- loaded again (4th time) and it seems to be back to normal - and it shows in program files now and in my task bar not sure why the earlier attempts failed other than I saved (& willarchive)instead of run this time (it should install either way)but it's up and running

Re: After a system crash I no longer have the grid agent

I had to use System Recover after a failed download (Because I clicked on "Use win32 default", instead of "Open from this location") After recovery the grid had vanished without trace crying I used "Power Desk" (Similar to Windows Explorer) to track it down.

System recover mentioned it had renamed a folder to "ud_126863" but made no mention of what the original folder name was. So now in the Power Desk tree, under WorldCommunityGrid i find two folders. "ud_126863_0(2).dir and ud_126863_0.dir. So I figure the second folder is probably the original folder before Sys Recover was used.

In the second folder, I find the main Grid Application, so I double clicked to open it. The application then complained that i could not open due to a missing dll called "udtapi.dll".

So now I opened the WorldCommunityGrid man folder and there I find the missing udtapi.dll. I then copy that dll to the folder "ud_126863_0.dir", containing the main application "WCGrid.Rossetta" (7.274mg in size to easy to find).

Next I double clicked on "WCGrid.Rossetta". This time the application stared and restored its taskbar shortcut.

I had also tryed double clicking on the UD short cut in the main folder, but it responded by stating that an instance of the app was already running.

I then checked windows task manager (press Alt Ctrl Delet in win 2k or xp) but the pocessor was only running at 1% of capacity, and nothing to do with the grid, showed under running applications. So now I am wondering if the app has a bug which, can tell it that an instance is running when in fact it is not?

I hope the above is useful.
