biggrin TFLOPS Stats

Would it be possible to show the number of TFLOPS the grid is producing so we can determine how we compare with the worlds fastest supercomputers?

Re: TFLOPS Stats

I doubt it.

Due to external pressures (and sponsors) some other projects have made totally outrageous claims about teraflops (and petaflops), failing to back them up with details of the calculation. WCG prefer to let their accomplishments speak for themselves, without inflation. Look at the results, the papers, the member retention.

If you still want a figure, then that's where it gets complicated. Frankly, I've given up worrying about it. If you're still interested, then various estimates have been calculated from time to time. They vary wildly.

Re: TFLOPS Stats

The only one 'claiming' to be a Pflop project runs on game consoles or GPUs, so not sure how that would compare, but if 100,000 cobblestones (BOINC credits) = 1 teraflops http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/CreditSystem WCG's 7.8 million daily credits equals approx. 78 cobblestones(Tflops).

What we do know is that WCG runs #2 in BOINCstats overall and #1 for LiveScience/Humanitarian: http://nl.boincstats.com/index.php?list=&or=21

Take it all with a pinch of salt.... There are some serious over-crediting projects. Einstein e.g. should probably be placed below a few other projects and the pflop claimant uses like Didactylos indicates proprietary software, so no ability to compare fairly at all.

NB: Missing from that data is rough approx. 40% of WCG (UD agents production).

Edit: corrected link to Cobblestone info.

Re: TFLOPS Stats

Perhaps this link would be helpful:

http://boincstats.com/stats/project_graph.php?pr=wcg

If Sekerob's figure of 60% Boinc and 40% UD agent is correct (and he is very good with figures) this would yield about 110Tflops or so for the WCG.

Cheers

smile Re: TFLOPS Stats

thanks for the replys gentlemen. seem to be full of suggestions at the moment - so here is another.

Could be add stats to show the number of devices which have returned a result for each day?

Re: TFLOPS Stats

crooks_uk, the same page Sgt.Joe referred you to, shows the active devices.... 213,953. While the RAC suggests 66 TFLops just for BOINC, the Thursday only value was 78Tflops. I guessed 40 percent, well a little math was closer to 42% still on UD, for that day. How to determine:

Take total day/period points of WCG
Deduct the BOINC points multiplied by 7
Difference, the UD contribution.

It's really very unscientific, but long as that BOINC percent creeps up, BOINCstats is moving towards the one stop stats shop.... steady as we go and the die hard UD clients will eventually get to it. 9 months to go nerd

Re: TFLOPS Stats

thanks Sek. would it not be possible to have the stats all in one place though, ie. the global statics page on WCG. It certainly makes more sense to me.

Re: TFLOPS Stats

that would be possible, if the BOINC would send back the MFLOP from the each compter it has ben installed! but that would be the "breach" of the system info of the users...

until WCG runs wholy on the BOINC, that cannot be done...

Re: TFLOPS Stats

Yesterday looked like:

Total WCG points..................... = 83,304,583
BOINC credits: +8,183,017 * 7 = 57,281,119 (68,7%)
UD Agent .......... 3,717,637 / 7 = 26,023,464 (31.2%)

Reworked, WCG did about 119 Tflops (as always apply salt in measure).

knreed shared that in *run* time it's momentarily 50/50 with UD agent, but the slower/single core clients still holding out on UD, the ratio of points tells a different story.

Not in the know if WCG will build its own BOINC stats, doubt it. Why should WCG, when many other projects rely on the 3rd party project consolidators. Here's a project's page listing 13 of these:

http://boinc.bio.wzw.tum.de/boincsimap/stats.php

Things like Top Computer can already be extracted from these and as you can see, many are 'Anonymous' (hidden).

Note to self: Wonder how many multi-core devices are still running the UD - non concurrent process able - Agent.... what a waste.
