By yielding in the science app. Cooperative throttling, unlike BOINC's pre-emptive throttling.

I have the same problem. I have it set to run at 40% during the say and 100% at night when im sleeping, but when it is set to 40% it spikes constantly: ... This makes my CPU fan come on full blast, and the temps rise to 63C on each core. (when on 100% during the night, it peaks at 55C) zomgdazzy, Unless the applications you run for yourself use much memory your PC seems to have enough RAM to let Boinc run at 100 % during the day. The main reasons why people want to throttle it down are usually - the temperature of the processors is getting too high - the lack of physical RAM causes too much memory swapping which makes personal use very uncomfortable or even almost impossible. Regarding computing power Boinc is really giving way whenever you need CPU power for yourself. Hence my question: have you actually tried to let it run at 100 % during the day? Was it really obtrusive? Because since it runs cooler at 100 % than at 40 % setting it always at 100 % would be my personal choice. Cheers. My 2 cents:
----------------------------------------I'm a hardware guy so that's how I approach problems. Attack the problem not the result. Directed air cooling can help you and then you can leave at 100% all the time. I'd look at the machine and see if there are additional ways to cool..Adding just one fan can sometimes make a huge difference. Most "normal " mid towers will have a spot for 1-80mm fan minimum at the front bottom but many machines are shipped without one in place. The fans are in the $5.00 range.. Also dust can greatly effect your temps. Seems a shame to use only part of what you have available. Also, if you have a machine that has maybe an 80mm fan put can take a 120 try that for cooling..120's generally produce more airflow at a slower rpm and are quieter.. I know this is not exactly the issue you posted on but with some small changes like these you may be more comfortable letting the machine run at 100% all the time. Best of Luck to you. ![]() |

then use ThreadMaster you will find it at Boinc. It runs the CPU at a constant rate. The down side is you have to go into registry to set the percentage. . There is a thread about it at Einstein.Regards Masud. |

No, there is a Threadmaster FAQ in our own Start Here forum, without any need to go actually into the registry!!!!!
