Not Boinc/ Re-registered/ Not connecting

Hi! My puter is unable to run Boinc. i went to re-register with the Human Proteome Folding (had been running the cancer project), had to re-install, and i keep getting the Agent Paused message.

i re-arranged my firewall and added WCG in the exception list in the Data Execution Program as per instructions on this page: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/viewCause.do

i'm still not able to receive any work from the server.

any ideas? thanks!

Why not BOINC? It will be your only option soon enough; might as well give it a try now.

Re: Not Boinc/ Re-registered/ Not connecting

Generally speaking, BOINC will work with less memory than the UD agent. So that explains why you aren't getting any work. Your computer doesn't meet the minimum requirements.

Sorry.

As far as I remember, UD did not check your hardware to see if it was suitable, it just sent to anything that could receive it. Boinc checks!

That was probably back when some smaller projects were available. You now need 250MB of memory to participate.

Re: Not Boinc/ Re-registered/ Not connecting

Kick your windows swap file (virtual memory) up to 1.5 Gb or 2 Gb or so. Others have managed to get BOINC working that way if they only have 256Mb of physical memory.
