Re: Running 2 instances of Boinc Client

No need to do that. BOINC will automatically run work on all four of your cores.

You can limit this using the multiprocessor preference (cores are treated as processors).

Re: Running 2 instances of Boinc Client

Don't do that. a) there's no point, and b) it probably won't work very well. BOINC is designed to use multiple processors, and does so automatically.

Oh, and you will find the preferences here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/v...iguration.do?name=Default

The relevant one in this case is "On multiprocessors, at most use: X processors" - the default is 4, I think.

Re: Running 2 instances of Boinc Client

Hi I've got a very strange issue, my quad and duo PCs are always running 4 and 2 process each simultaneously , but its results are not reflected in my statistics. Apparently it shows like I have 1 core processors; for instance the quad shows 1 result every 3.2 hrs instead of the 4 results returned every 3.2 hrs.

Please Help !!

Hello Jean Pierre.
Just which statistics are you speaking about?
The results should show up on the Results Status page.
The statistics per device should show in My Grid - My Statistics - Device Statistics

Re: Running 2 instances of Boinc Client

Hi Lawrence thanks

This are my statistics

Intel C2D: jp2-pc 09/25/2007 0:169:13:47:45 440,551 1,140
Intel C2D: JP3-PC 09/25/2007 0:029:14:38:46 77,717 215
P4-2.8GHz Aopen 09/25/2007 0:084:04:04:11 123,706 306
Athlon64 main 09/25/2007 0:074:17:00:28 119,951 293
Intel QUad JP4-PC 09/25/2007 0:002:10:26:35 6,480 18

According to this, for instance
my QUAd (Jp4) runtime: 2 days 10hr. 18 results
that is: 58hr / 18 = 3.2 hrs per Result

My Dual COre (JP3) runtime: 29 days, 14 Hr, 215 results
That is: 710hr / 215 = 3,3 hrs per result

Conclusion: according with" my Stats" my quad is taking the same time to return 1 result, even though it is procesing 4 tasks simultaneously instead the 2 tasks of the dual core JP3.

Can you explain this please?, what is the point of having dual or quad cores if the results are the same.

Ps. Each core of the quad and the Dual Cores, is running at 2.4Ghz

Andres on behalf of Jean Pierre.

Re: Running 2 instances of Boinc Client

Andres,

JP is omitting information that lawrencehardin asked for:

- Did he have a look in the Result Status (RS) page? (Filter by Device makes things even easier)

And an additional question:

- Since when are these quads operational?

If 4 simultaneous processes are seen in the Tasks Tab of BOINC Manager (BM), denote the job names and watch them through completion. While they are crunching, they should show in the RS page as 'In Progress'. When done and the 'Ready to Report' lines in the Tasks Tab of BM have cleared, the same Work Units should have a changed status in the RS page to 1 of 8 other possible conditions . As long as not validated, no points are awarded and no counting in device statistics takes place (only updated every 12 hours also).

If his clovers show error results, they are not counted. For Invalid results I don't know. They get half the points though.

And yes, per core a quad will take a similar time per task as a C2D, except it will report 4 results over the same time a C2D will report 2 results and a P4 will report 1 result. No doubt in my mind.

Oh, and those "Ready To Report" lines will clear automatically after some time when 1 of 7 conditions occur:

Re: Running 2 instances of Boinc Client

Hi Jean Pierre.
Sekerob is right. The device statistics for less than 3 days will be affected by validation delays. The statistics for a device that has been running for months will not. Your quad core will eventually be twice as productive as your dual cores.
