Let's say I am at 33% and need to reboot.
What happens to task that is currently running? Does it restart where it left off when I reconnect? |

From what I have seen and been told the program automatically saves its results each time the % changes so if you reboot during a work unit you will lose very little of your work.

Hi JCsalter,
What happens to my task when I shutdown my PC? It is also beiing shut down Let's say I am at 33% and need to reboot. It is also beiing shut down What happens to task that is currently running? It is also beiing shut down Does it restart where it left off when I reconnect? Yes My answers are not pretended to be rude or offencive, I build my new PC last friday and I installed the WCG client quiet early.... it is now tuesday-night and believe me I rebooted "quiet some times" and the WCG-client continued were it left every time. During this installation weekend I was even able to return 10 results wit this p4-3.0... So when you need to reboot, you reboot . Wish you many happy crunches.. and lots of results |

Hi jcsalter
Here is the official answer from: Rick Alther World Community Grid Application Developer Rosetta checkpoints at the end of each computed structure. This is indicated by an increment in the the total progress. It's best seen on the graphics screen since we increment in fractions of a percent while the main screen simply shows whole percent. Shutting the computer down shouldn't make the task reset. It'll restart at its last checkpoint. However, if you just hit the power button, there is the possibility of a corrupt checkpoint file. If the Agent detects a corrupt checkpoint (or other files), it will restart from the beginning. Finally, killing Rosetta via the Task Manager will cause the Agent to report an error. It'll immediately send an error back to the server and you'll download a new workunit. However, you'll get no credit for the computation time if the Agent reports an error. Regards |

frans6nl,
This is not really related to the question of rebooting but I have a P4 3.2 ghz processor and initally had overheating issues with it - 140 to 150F at 100% CPU use. I solved the problem by placing a 4800 rpm, 75.7 CFM Thermaltake Smart case Fan 2 (Part Number A1357) about two inches away from the CPU and at full speed blow across the heatsink. Now I am running between 115F and 126F depending on room tempature. I though I would pass this information on to you if you are experiencing overheating. |
