I'm getting the same 'file not found' on four of the downloads (beta enabled). All the others went through fine (very quickly in fact). The relevant files are:
----------------------------------------ach1_1__namelist.input ach1_1__wrfbdy_d01 ach1_1__wrfinput_d01 ach1_1__wrflowinp_d01 Retry didn't help (tried it on all 4). I note that these particular files don't have the work-unit name included, so many different PCs will be trying to download the same file. I've seen on some alpha projects problems similar to this where the file gets deleted from the server once it's downloaded to a PC, and the next person trying to download the same file can't get it. Configuration issue (file needs to be marked in some way so that the server doesn't delete it). Boinc is 5.10.8 32-bit on openSUSE 10.2 64-bit. Mike,
This will take some work to figure out what is going on. The files are on the file system and accessible directly via a browser. And yes - we do have the BOINC features engaged to prevent the shared files from being deleted when a particular workunit is ready to be deleted (and I just re-confirmed that they are working as they should). It is interesting that you even had problems with the small files since that shouldn't be anything unusual. Have you ever had problems downloading work from us before? |

Ok - I did find the problem. It lasted for about 24 hours. For those that are interested (and know what I'm talking about) we are using the technique where the file_deleter daemon will only delete workunits that are ready to be deleted and have their batch id = 0. The input files for AfricanClimate@Home are shared at the batch level. Also - once we got this set up for AfricanClimate@Home we started using this for Human Proteome Folding - Phase 2 as well and we have been using it on that project for about two weeks.
However, the batch name for the workunits for the beta test were the same as the batch name for the first set of workunits for production. The prefix for the files names of ach1_1_ is the batch name. When some of the beta workunits were deleted, they wiped out those files you listed. They were restored at the 18:00 UTC update (as more workunits were added to the grid). I have modified things so that when the remainder of the workunits for the Beta test complete it will not impact any other workunits. As also - thanks for reporting problems. |

... Have you ever had problems downloading work from us before? I'm a WCG newbie so it was my first attempt at downloading a workunit (I joined WCG yesterday because of AfricanClimate@Home, you'll notice from my signature I mostly only crunch climate-related projects). ... I have modified things so that when the remainder of the workunits for the Beta test complete it will not impact any other workunits. ... Excellent, thanks :-) My next workunit (another beta climate model) downloaded and ran OK. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Sep 2, 2007 11:43:28 AM] |

Hello, I have several questions.
1) what kind of climate models exactly are/will be crunched? Climateprediction.net, another project of climate modelling, gives its participants several kinds of climate models, for example, UK Med office HADCM3 and so on. Will also Africanclimate@home distribute workunits of such organisation or ones which are originally produced or customised? 2) is "trickle-up" enabled? The other project enabled so-called "trickle-up", so that credits are given to hosts, even if they cannot complete computing of a model, due to having some errors. Does this project enable such a system? thanks, suguruhirahara |

Hi Suguhirhara, long time no hear,
----------------------------------------No there wont be trickles. The units only last momentarily between 8-15 hours (times reported by users). There's only one AC@H option to choose. For detail discussion see the Member News forum, The Research Pages (Button at top of screen) and other threads on the topic in this AC@H forum. cheers

Knreed, I'm also seeing download problems, and I don't have the beta project selected. Is this something that should filter out as the files you mentioned get restored?

Thank you all for the best wishes. The Tajik-Turkish high school team is very excited with this project.

My wildest guess at progress based on brand new, quorum 10, no returns yet, of 2 work units ACH1_6_68 and ACH1_6_35 and watching other reports is, that we're now just entering into the 6th 14 day prediction period of 27 total. These jobs of block 35 and 68 came in on 2 different machines with All Project profiles, this Saturday afternoon late. Given that cycle 6 could not be done without cycle 5 completing, we could now be at approximately 18.5% for this project.
----------------------------------------Looking forward to some words from the project leadership on how we are doing. cheers
