Hi all. I selected this projec in my progect page, but i read a note that let me perplexed.
----------------------------------------It says: Discovering Dengue Drugs - Together (Available on BOINC only) ![]() Now, how can i know if I've a BOINC software (is BOINC a software?) installed on my machines? I read that BOINC is a Linux agent, but elsewere I read about BOINC on windows... ![]() ![]() ![]() I've 6 installations, all on win machines (both w2k and xp). Thanks in advance. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by fotodiandrea at Aug 24, 2007 9:59:59 AM] |

Ciao fotodiandrea,
----------------------------------------The difference you can determine by double clicking on the agent icon on the start bar. When the window opens it should say BOINC left hand top. The UD agent says United Devices, right hand bottom. Here and there in the help files there's still an outdated reference to Linux only, which we've been working to get to state that BOINC runs on many platforms on WCG (Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, Mac-Intel, MAC-PC). If you go to the download page, when already signed in, it lists the available WCG endorsed versions of BOINC: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/reg/ms/viewDownloadBoinc.do?newMember=false a prossimo

Thank you for your reply.
----------------------------------------Now I downloaded BOINC (I had UD agent), but it has some problems (I think...). After been activated, it downloaded some files (I saw it in Transfer tab), but it still tryin' to transfer many other ones. In message tab it says (i.e.): 24/08/2007 16.46.05|World Community Grid|[file_xfer] Started download of file wcg_dddt_autodock_5.08_windows_intelx86 24/08/2007 16.46.06|World Community Grid|[file_xfer] Temporarily failed download of wcg_dddt_autodock_5.08_windows_intelx86: http error 24/08/2007 16.46.06|World Community Grid|Backing off 2 hr 49 min 49 sec on download of file wcg_dddt_autodock_5.08_windows_intelx86 I think proxy settings are correct (some trasfers succeded), but I can't understand why it's waiting so much for oter files. ![]() Thanks once again, Andrea I closed ud agent but the things don't change ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by fotodiandrea at Aug 24, 2007 3:06:30 PM] |

This particular project (DDD-T) has 15 megabytes of extra graphics display files that must come down with the first download, in addition to the program and workfile. You will just have to give it time.
----------------------------------------![]() Checking the little box in my projects that says to send other work if a particular project is out of work is also a good idea if you have not selected all projects.

urban peasant retsof This particular project (DDD-T) has 15 megabytes of extra graphics display files outrageous bloat ! You didn't quote the whole sentence: retsof This particular project (DDD-T) has 15 megabytes of extra graphics display files that must come down with the first download, in addition to the program and workfile. After the 1st download, it doesn't have to download all the 'outrageous bloat' anymore. Puts it more in perspective now doesn't it? Diana G. ![]() |

Normally I don't pay much attention to the graphics but after reading a few posts took the time to bring them up for the new project. Didn't like them, but that is different topic. The question is - once these "outrageous bloat" graphics are downloaded - do they ever get removed when a project is completed or the graphics are changed? Or do they sit around forever like so many other files ?

They sit around. If you want, remove them after the workunit finishes, and the outrageous bloat will simply download again with the next workunit.
----------------------------------------At the end of a WCG project, any of the old programs, workunits and graphics can be removed, but there are a few critical files that span all WCG projects and should be left alone or the device will be reinstalled. Tread carefully in this area. You are not done with WCG yet are you? BOINC also has a method to remove files after detaching a master project like WCG overall. I have found that sometimes it works well and sometimes not, depending on the project. If there's not a FAQ mentioning these file types, we need to work on one. For all its foibles, the old UD grid.org forum had a very nice display of specific workunits and program types.
