small problem

hey guys, having an issue with Error results on one of my rigs.

it's a Abit kt7a mobo, 1000mhz AMD socket A cpu, 512 mb Ram. not alot to it, just pieced it together from parts laying around.

anyways.. i had it running the BOINC 5.10, and had errors every 5 minutes or so on it.. this from msg on results status page:

<core_client_version>5.10.13</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[
<message>
The system cannot find the path specified. (0x3) - exit code 3 (0x3)
</message>

INFO:[10:17:43] Start AutoGrid...

INFO:[10:20:19] End AutoGrid...

</stderr_txt>
]]>

i had read a thread about using BOINC 5.8. did that, seemed better until i think was around 15 hours or so i got another error. this one on 5.8:

<core_client_version>5.8.16</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[
<message>
The system cannot find the path specified. (0x3) - exit code 3 (0x3)

INFO:[00:27:54] End AutoGrid...
Beginning AutoDock...

</stderr_txt>
]]>

Not sure what all that means. anyone help me out? running win XP sp2 on it at the moment, have previous versions if that is the issue with older hardware? (but i have a celeron 667 running same OS and RAM.. *shrug*)

Thanks for any info! ^^

-Chuck

EDIT: oh! the windows error was.. a Visual Basic Error i think. was tired :P if i see it again, i'll write it down and post it as well. thanks again. :)

Re: small problem

looks like all of them were FAAH units, looks like it's chewing on another FAAH unit now too. guess i could try to put it on a differant project to keep it off the FAAH units and see how it goes?

Re: small problem

Sgt.Joe,

the log posted by chux77 states the faah version 5.41 Autodock and it so happens that dddt is using the same AutoDock, but in it's science version 5.08 presently. The similarity is this 0x3 exit code between the 2. Here a piece of a successful DDDT job showing that the other messages are just warnings, not fatal errors:
<core_client_version>5.11.0</core_client_version>

The "1812" message is discussed in an FAQ and seen pretty much all the project result logs (HPF2, FAAH, DDDT).

@chux77

We are sure interested in the exact VBS message popping up.

Re: small problem

some more info...

the Windows Popup message:

Microsoft Visual C++
Program: ...ommunitygrid.org\wcg-dddt_autodock_5.08_windows_intelx86
This Application has requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the applications support team for more information.

and the corresponding BOINC message:

08/25/07 7:30:59 AM Reason: unrecoverable error for result dddt0101a0010_Zinc00766737-0001_07_0 (the system cannot find the path specified.) (0x3) - exit code 3 (0x3))

that's all i got, if ya need more, i'll see if i can dig it up. looked like it completed one successfully (another dengue unit), and then this one didn't make it. Not for sure, but i think these are the same errors as i had previously.

Re: small problem

512Mb is a little tight, especially with HPF2. Do you have plenty of virtual memory (Windows swap disk?) At least 1.5Gb - 2Gb wouldn't hurt, or let Windows manage it and see what happens.

Re: small problem

hmm. i have it set to let windows manage. usually tweak that on all my comps, but haven't had much time to mess with that one. could probably dig up some more RAM, and give it more VM, but with errors right off the bat, thought i might have some deeper issues. i'll try it and let ya know how it goes ^^
