I have been running BOINC for several months without a problem (more or less) but since last week it is unable to connect. This is the log I get:

Hi Sergio,
----------------------------------------If you made no change to client or computer, and given the reference site link being successful, it is probably a firewall issue, either on your machine or you sitting behind e.g. a company firewall who are blocking port 443 on outgoing traffic. Were there any Windows automatics updates to the machine? Last week was the monthly event. Do the dates coincide? ttyl

I am having a similar problem. I am pretty sure my machine did update last week, but the communication/connection problems seemed to start yesterday. This is a work computer, so I am not sure what might have happened at the server level.
I reinstalled the Boinc client this morning, so I don't have any logs on the communication attempts. It just basically will not connect. Eric |

Have a look in the stdoutdae.txt file. A reinstall, unless you deleted the contents of the BOINC program directory, should have preserved the file. That file is the place to look for any messages prior to a BOINC restart.

Here what the stdoutdae.txt file has in it a couple times at the bottom.

ecirwin, it looks like you have filesystem corruption. I suggest you do this:
- Uninstall BOINC - Run checkdisk or a similar diagnostic tool - Delete the BOINC folder entirely - Reinstall BOINC Fixes don't get more drastic than this, but I think filesystem corruption warrants it. In addition, you may want to run a more advanced diagnostic on your drive to determine whether it is failing. You may need a new one. Sorry I don't have any better news for you. |

A work computer is a difficult matter as thru group policy management the IT admin could have removed the right, whole or part, to perform certain activities in the program files area. This begs the question if the owner of the work computer gave permission to install and run BOINC?
----------------------------------------The security software could see issue as the referenced client_state.xml is a very frequently used file for write/read operations and for backup purposes regularly renamed to client_state_prev.xml, after which a new one is created. If authority fails, those operations will certainly fall apart. Suggest following steps: 1. Set your BOINC client not to fetch new work 2. Abort all jobs listed in the Tasks tab 3. Update WCG in the BOINC project tab to clear the tasks queue 4. Exit BOINC 5. Uninstall BOINC 6. Delete all content of BOINC 7. Do a fresh install using the a copy obtained from the WCG download page, making sure to select the 'existing member' box before entering member name/password. If it persists, talk to your IT support. Added: As observed by Didactylos, you could have a corrupted file system needing attention.

Sekerob, I believe a permissions issue would give a different error. I know it mentions permissions, but that message is just based on the generic "could not write" error, not the specific error.
I could be wrong, but in this case I'm fairly sure of my ground. |
