Hi,
----------------------------------------I have the following problem and I was wondering if anybody could help me with it. I would like to configure boinc so that when I'm watching a DVD on my pc, the program starts working after 2 minutes. I tried to do this with the the preferences menu. There is an option where you can decide how long it takes before the program gets to work. I have set this for 3 minutes but when I save and close this window, the settings aren't saved and the program keeps working constantly. So I read on the forum that you can adjust your settings through an online menu. So I made a custom profile called "home": and I have set it as default : ![]() There was also something on the forum that said that it would have to have another connection with your program before the settings were effective. It has been 2 days now and 2 crunched files but the settings are still not adjusted. What am I doing wrong ? [Edit 2 times, last edit by donfrabrizio at Aug 18, 2007 3:23:46 PM] |

Hi Don Fabrizio,
----------------------------------------did you connect the device in the device manager to the home profile? If not, go here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewDevices.do and select the device and use the drop down box to connect the 'home' profile to the device and save. After, go the the client, open the project tab, select WCG and hit the Update button in the left margin. Visit the Message tab. Both at start up and whenever there is a profile change, there is a message to say which profile is used by the client: "18/08/2007 19.03.25||General prefs: using separate prefs for home" If you've set the client to not do work when machine is used, BOINC should slow down. I play video and streaming TV from the internet and never notice BOINC is running in the background. My machine is over 5 years old, so not really fast. Let us know if that is not the issue. PS, I'm not sure if setting a profile to 'default' it will connect to existing clients or only new installations. Your Device Manager will tell.

Thanks Sekerob for helping me out.
----------------------------------------In addition, I had to disable my preferences in the simple view mode. I don't notice BOINC ether when playing a movie but it's just that I have an intel E6420 with 2 cores. First I wanted to use 1 core for myself and 1 for folding but unfortunately, BOINC noticed that I had 2 cores so it folded on both of them and that gave me an uncomfortable feeling. That's not what I bought it for.So I'm giving BOINC the 2 cores for 80 or 90 % when I'm watching a movie or having a friend come over. donfrabrizio, you can limit BOINC to one core if you wish. Set the "On multiprocessors, use at most X processors" setting to 1.
