Since many days, when i go in "Statistics" and "My Grid", website say only:
The page you requested is currently unavailable because the statistics are being updated. The statistics update will finish in about 00:00 minutes. ![]() |

This always happens at about the same time of day, after 0000UTC and 1200UTC. In the central time zone in summer in U.S. that is 7:00am and 7:00pm. Lately, the statistics update lasts about 1.5 hours more or less.
----------------------------------------You can play with the forum, but not the statistics pages at that time. If you logon at another time, my grid and statistics should be available.

Why don't they change the update progress, so you can always watch the statistics page?
Boincstats doesn't have that problem and also not google, yahoo or any other site that works with a big database! I can't see the problem, only that there is not enough money to let it work "properly". Can somebody tell me why the statistics page is down for more than an hour a day? |

It's inherited from the UD system. Getting rid of it will be difficult, at least until UD is retired permanently.

hmmm, my main bank online system is off the air for 1 hour a day for backup and maintenance.
----------------------------------------Actually 3-6 months ago efforts were undertaken by WCG to reduce the window which resulted in the backups and updates only getting longer due a hang on one or the other member record due timing. The 4x a day updates were reduced to 2x a day in order that access to the My Grid pages could be extended. The rapid growth of the project has though consumed the savings as shortly after the revamping every early 2007, a stats update took like 30-35 minutes and now well over an hour and Saturday lunchtime in fact close to 2 hours.... knreed was looking as to why that is happening.

Thank's now I know it's coming from UD, now it's just waiting for the close of the UD devices.
@sekerob: A normal internet bank site never goes down for maintenance. A good server never has to go off and you almost don't have to maintain it, the only problem is the harddisk that stops spinning after 5 years of running. ![]() |

Hello s060319!
----------------------------------------You are confused because Sekerob used the word maintenance which often means hardware maintenance. You are right about hardware maintenance, it usually no longer needs shutting systems down. But housekeeping if you prefer, or daily application activities necessary to ensure integrity of online applications or their synchronisation or particular batch activities are normally done while blocking interactive activity. Same as for Sekerob the two "small" financial companies I am dealing with (HSBC and ING) do not allow me to logon when they do that, and for me I am afraid it's closed longer than one hour. Regarding BoinsStats it's true that it does everything on the fly, but the results are not always a good demonstration that this method is safe, particularly for teams stats. Don't get me wrong, I do not say that BoincStats is bad. It does a very good and interesting job indeed, but it is not perfect either...Cheers. Jean. |

Now if they would only update the time count down to include the number of hours the stats updates run instead of displaying 05:34 ... wait 6 minutes and then it's 59:34

Sometimes it does that. You will though find that long before the 59:59 is over, the update is finished. Most of the times the whole thing runs in under an hour and when reaching 00:00 sits there a few minutes, before My Grid is accessible again. Remember that it's very hard to predict the duration. Oddly the phenomena is most frequently observed with the Saturday 12:06 UTC stats run.
