Scheduler request failed: couldn't resolve host name

I am getting this message on Apple PowerBook G4 running OS X 10.4.10 and BOINC Manager 5.10.7. This laptop worked just fine for the past two months until yesterday when I transferred the whole system to a new laptop using Migration Assistant.app. The new laptop was already running BOINC Manager. It took me about 4 hours to notice that Migration Assistant renamed the new laptop with the same Computer Name (set in System Preferences > Sharing).

I am assuming this was not a smart thing to do: to have two computers running World Community Grid work under identical name. Since then the new laptop is working away just fine getting new work units without problems. The old one, however, is unable to get any work.

I reset the project, detached and reattached. I deleted BOINC Manager and reinstalled it. It seems every action of mine resulted in some kind of new message, I have gotten:
• Scheduler request failed: couldn't resolve host name
--
• Resetting project
--
• Message from server: No work could be sent.
• Message from server: (there was work for other platforms)
--
Each message is followed by: Deferring communication by X hr X min X sec.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Re: Scheduler request failed: couldn't resolve host name

Duplicate names isn't a problem, although it can be very confusing.

"couldn't resolve host name" is hopefully a temporary error. Resetting the project was probably unnecessary.

Your current error, "unable to get work" may be caused by the FAAH transition (see Member News). Which WCG projects have you selected? On your projects page: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/viewMyProjects.do make sure you select "If there is no work available for my computer for the projects I have selected above, please send me work from another project"

Re: Scheduler request failed: couldn't resolve host name

I wonder about 2 computers identifying itself on the same LAN with the same name and given that BOINC uses the name given by the OS. The Result Status report would certainly be confusing, if it works.

Re: Scheduler request failed: couldn't resolve host name

I have checked the "If there is no work available for my computer for the projects I have selected above, please send me work from another project" checkmark but it did not solve anything. Also there is no shortage of work from WCG going to my other computers.

Could it be that server is confused about the two computers identifying themselves with the same name (although that is no longer the case)?

Any other suggestions?

Re: Scheduler request failed: couldn't resolve host name

Ah - you have a PPC. Currently, FAAH is the only project available for PPC. I'm sorry, you will have to wait until the new work units are sent out (hopefully later today).

Sorry for the confusion.

Re: Scheduler request failed: couldn't resolve host name

Hopefully the new Autodoc will resolve the issue. However my other PPC is getting work no problem right now.
