i'm running this computer usually as a type-writter...but even though it is only that and has only dual 533MHz (which is less than 600MHz for any of the UDagent projects to run), i want ot use it for calcs...
----------------------------------------now i've put the BOINC on the machine, and it works fine...but he detects the dual CPU MBO, and downloads the dual-proiject comparison, which is consuming a lot of my RAM and puts both CPUs on 100%...i have the 640MB of RAM, but most of it is used for my internet based programs... i've found thortle on the BOINC...it is set on 60%...all is working fine! but i cannot find the the sewting for the single project use for the BOINC program...in other words i want to run only one project on BOINC, even though i have dual CPUs on the MBO! |

And if you need to free one processor as soon as possible, once you have updated your profile in WCG, from Boinc's advanced view select "Projects", select WCG in the list of projects and click the "Update" button.on the left. Once your updated profile has been downloaded Boinc should suspend one of the tasks until the other one is finished.

thanks guys...but the suspension mode for 3min when active is enough...so i'll stick to that!
----------------------------------------two CPUs, two tasks...and the RAM will go up soon! |

Sure, if you can add enough cheap RAM to this machine that is certainly the best solution to keep your two processors crunching for WCG.

I am wondering this:
does BOINC back off as UD does.? |

Theoretically not...if you have enough jobs downloaded. There will be time when the servers are down for various reasons, but you will only see that if you look under the message tab....

If I start working on photography will it back off or keep hogging the CPUs?
Thanks for your time Scribe. |

BOINC runs at the lowest possible priority, so yes - it backs off when you use the CPU yourself.
However, the BOINC throttle works differently to the UD throttle. You may find the way it works unexpected. |
