Just my opinion, there's so many gaming consoles out there now that it would be a great time to reprogram the software, i.e., BOINC or the UD Agent to run on these. I own a Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and PS3 with my PC's running, it would quadruple the output and it seems like there's many more people who are willing to participate.

Most frequent FAQ ever.... firstly, you can write off the PS2 and XBox - they aren't powerful enough.
As for the PS3 and Xbox360 - I think enterprising people have got BOINC to work on them, but for WCG to take advantage, they would have to port all the science applications, and presently that is rather a daunting task due to the different architectures. I'm sure these problems will be solved, but patience will be required (as well as cooperation from the console makers). |

Hi,
----------------------------------------You don't need to sit your PS3 idle ! Check out Folding@home ( from stanford university ) it's another protein folding community using differrent tecniques but aim for the same goal as WCG. Carry on crunching BOINC for WCG on your PC, while running your PS3 for F@H. That's the optimum solution to you. BTW F@H also have a client for ATI GPU's. PS3 & GPU clients are about 30 times faster than the fastest CPU, so If you have a High end ATI GPU that's another plus for you :)) Here is the link: http://folding.stanford.edu/ http://folding.stanford.edu/FAQ-PS3.html http://folding.stanford.edu/FAQ-ATI.html [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Aug 3, 2007 7:55:03 PM] |
