To the comments I would like to say the following:
My original post in 'colour text' was toying around to try and make a point. I was not trying to suggest that it must be done that way. If a minority of people are colour blind and it wouldn't suit, well fine, scrap it. I agree on the 'dictates of fashion' and 'flashy web designers' - both a pain. I do, though, think that page on the website could do with fair improvement. For the comments that imply that there is no real reason why I (and I have to suppose anyone else) would want to visit that page and see what scores have or have not actually been added to totals I can only say that people making that type of comment are missing the point. I do not understand why people are defending obscurity when the information could be supplied very easily and readily at that page with not a lot of work to achieve that. With respect to the 'invalid' work being more interesting than the 'valid', well, as always, its binary, and how anyone arrives at what is the significant part of the binary is - as always - subjective, so I sure know I ain't the only one around here being inevitably that. Why is it that I can't (or anyone else for that matter) look at that page and get the information that I would like from it. It's not much to ask for is it? A black 'tick', even just bold text - what is difficult about that? |

MeToo,
----------------------------------------Regarding colors I did take your initial post as a demonstration, not a precise requirement. Regarding the stats, as said above, you can consider as granted that as soon as a granted value is shown on your Result Status page it has been added to your score, and if you go to BoincStats (for example) you will see it soon. The problem of WCG's stats is that they are organised to update all their pages twice a day for some, or even only once a day for the others. So, showing scores in real time is not just a cosmetic change, it is a full rework. At least this is my understanding of them. Last, about "no real reasons", honestly, nobody said that until now. What we said or implied one way or another is that we do not see any essential/major/top-priority reason which would make that task take precedence over tasks related to the heart of WCG, I mean bringing out new projects and supporting them. Cheers. Jean. |

AFAIK, the only thing updated daily and not every statistics run is the Team Total Statistics. It's not a 'problem' to many, at least I've never perceived it as such.
----------------------------------------Straying from the topic, rumor had it that we might be seeing real time stats some time in the future for certain higher level elements. I already see almost 'real time' BOINC statistics from WCG in my Firefox statusbar (Actually, told it to only query once per hour). The BOINC agent, like the UD agent shows the statistic up to the minute also, or in case of former, all including those validated up to the point of last server/client contact. If website personal stats were updated in almost real time, certainly it would improve on the experience.... wish-listed. BOINCstats and others update about 4x a day like WCG used to do, but was reduced as it locked out folk too often and too long from the My Grid page and client profile maintenance. With all the upgrades/improvements seeing now breaks of about 30 minutes opposed to recent past 45-60 minutes. Now that's ![]() For the interestees, you can set in the cc_config.xml for how many days the client statistics need to be graphed. I've set it to 90 days. From the file statistics_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml one can read back the daily increase, in BOINC credits. <cc_config> Now I'm going to shut eye ![]()

I have thought about this very carefully in terms of what is going on here and keeping in mind other examples of the same kind of thing I have seen repeated in other areas of the forum. On that basis I have decided to withdraw from the gird.
You have a lot of work to do. Good luck. |

We're sorry to hear, but given that the science has priority and resource is limited we cant have it all now..... "piccolo passi" as is what is said here or as per a Japanese approach "Kaizen".... continuous improvement, but in small steps to merge the 2.
----------------------------------------check back later. ciao

Too bad that this discussion could lead you to this decision, but this is strictly up to you.
----------------------------------------keeping in mind other examples of the same kind of thing I have seen repeated in other areas of the forum. At least I am glad that you could check that WCG's position on these matters is rather consistent and that there was nothing against you personally.I shall be happy to see you back whenever you like. Good luck. Jean. |

I would like to say that I understand that science has priority but, (there always a "but" in there somewhere!) I would like to see the WCG Home Page for BOINC user more like the other projects. The way it is now makes it hard to find the info a person is looking for.
----------------------------------------Or maybe you could add a link "Top Teams" to the current Home Page so we don't have to go looking for the info. Current layout is hard when you are use to the format that other projects have been using. Just my 1 cent worth! ![]() |

I can assure you that the road junctions, roundabouts, crossings in for instance Italy, UK and USA are quite different, yet all seem to find their way when visiting each others countries, so for Top Teams: Every single WCG web or forum page Top Bar buttons:
----------------------------------------![]() Left Margin: By Teams Slice and dice every which way: Team StatisticsWhere on these pure BOINC projects does one find run time, results and more that WCG has to offer.... it's what one is used to. Most of the time the front page lists the top five, unless the area is used for the new partner announcements. AND of course you've heard of the new team challenges..... one team recruited 60 new members in 4 days who by themselves represent a team power of their own. WCG is different and is not ashamed, rather, it's proud of being the best Humanitarian DC project on offer on BOINC and overall. As it transitions, phasing out the UD client sometime in 2008 (guess), will it more converge towards a BOINC only, but think those BOINC sites can do with some vamping also. Anyway, for stats, global, project, individual, many rely on e.g. BOINCstats with all the flashy graphing: Here's the WCG top team list: http://www.boincstats.com/stats/team_stats.php?pr=wcg&st=0 The whole fun with the 3rd party stat. sites is that they are much more flexible in modifying.... sadly though the theme seems to be credit credit credit and not run time or jobs completed. Once i find something too many clicks away, i put it in the bookmark organizer.... after that it's 1 click away. Don't misunderstand me after all this verbiage: WCG do listen and WCG do implement those items that are appealing.... in time.

Here's the unpleasant short version: some people want WCG to be more like the standard BOINC site, other people want it more like the old UD interface. Some people want it simple and splashed with colourful icons and graphics, other people want more detail, more complexity, more information.
WCG can't please everyone. But they are trying as hard as they possibly can! |
