Re: Linux, I have one now, but being a Windows type

If you set it up as service without the BOINCmgr GUI that's the only option available to you. Somewhere i made a few posts on linking to WCG and connecting the command line tool to the daemon. Here is the instructions wiki: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/BoincCmd

If your linux box is on your home network, you will probably find it easier to control the Boinc client using Boinc View, or a similiar program, from your windows computer. There are a number of threads discussing Boinc View in more detail that I could provide here.

biggrin Re: Linux, I have one now, but being a Windows type

OK! Finally back to getting this server going.

The website people are very happy but have said there is an error that keeps the agent from booting.

The error number is 155, Authorization failure. Where would you go for the decode of what this really means? I am using Putty to control the system. Should this be a problem?

I need to try to do this from a remote computer. For in the end, a true headless system would need to be initalized this way. If this works, the price of crunching could drop dramaticaly. Not only for the cost of investing in hardware, but in ownership as well.

Just to let you know, Im not doing this as a money making project. If this were the case, I hardly would be talking about it here. In fact. if someone took the ball and pumped the mobo for this, I wouldnt be happier.

That error has been covered on these fora before:
ERR_AUTHENTICATOR -155

The scheduler request host ID number doesn't match with the authenticator.
You are missing your authenticator key. Detach from and re-attach to the project.

It was a long thread and some serious sweat wiping at the end (some headbutting was wiggling it's way in at some point). There are various 32 hex values that need to match.

PuTTY? http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html. The header on superficial perusing looks like a hands off for some folk.

biggrin Re: Linux, I have one now, but being a Windows type

Im having to move all the machines around. I need my frontroom back, so i had to modify the desks here to handle all but one, which will be the tv control/cruncher test system. i can get away with that.

I still have this in the queue, but its going to be a few days before i get caught back up enough to fix the problem. But when i do, i will write the specs for the drivebay cruncher concept.

The question is: Where do you want the thread to go when this becomes more of a project thread and less of a help thread?

shock Re: Linux, I have one now, but being a Windows type

it seems i have another problem. so i will return here shortly. need to recover from a dislocated rib first. but this should be only a few more days.

Im still have problems attaching a project. When i return, i will have a better understanding of the problem to ask better questions.

btw, the spec's on the drivebay cruncher are becoming more clear everyday, even if this section is lagging behind.
