Just to update - I ran all the usual tests, and passed them all including Memtest - however having discovered in the past that passing Memtest doen't always mean the RAM is OK when in comes to crunching, I swopped the RAM out and I haven't had any errors now for 5 days.

So it would appear faulty RAM was the cause.
