JmBoullier, correct. But only because an upgrade automatically removes the previous installation for you. If you try this with the same version, it won't work. It will say it's already installed, and give you the option to remove or repair the installation. K-J: Here's a step by step guide for you. 1) Uninstall BOINC. Do this by going to Add/Remove programs in Control Panel. 2) Reinstall BOINC. When you get to the part that asks you what installation type you want, select Service (not Single or Shared). Make sure you install to the same folder as before: D:\bionic\ I think you said. 3) Make sure you have the correct registry key in there. Open regedit (Start->Run type "regedit") and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control and check that the WaitToKillServiceTimeout value is set to 60000. 4) Reboot so that the changes take effect. With the risk of driving us all mental but when do you get the question about single, shared or service? The only question I get duing installation is is to accept the license agreement. The Boinc installation file is 5.8.15 |

My fault, I forgot that part of the problem is the WCG installer removed that option.
Get BOINC here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php |

Spotted that too.
Is this the correct text for the reg key? Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control] "WaitToKillServiceTimeout"="60000" I cant see it in the registry entry in that section but the value comes up as 60000 when I look for it. |

Touch wood but everything seems to be working now.
I have installed the 5.8.16 as a single user and delay value. Have restarted the system once as shutdown and a full reboot and it seems to remember where I was. Thanks for all your help! Hopefully you wont see me in a while ![]() |

My dual profiles did also disappear with this update.
I said the other day that I seemed to be able to turn a project to across a shutdown. This is almost true. One of my projects did resume but not the other. Any reason for that? |

I understand that you want to keep the device IDs for historical purposes. I have retired some PCs from working on the grid. My profile still shows a count that would imply I have more PCs working than I actually do.
Maybe we can retire a device ID so it does not show up as active. The groups show active members and retired members. I don't want someone to think I have 9 PCs running when I only have 4. They might wonder why I am not getting more results with 9 PCs. Joel |

There is some thought to retiring inactive devices, but it is not a high priority. I have 4 active computers, but due to testing and old computers that went away, I show 110 devices.
----------------------------------------Some care must be given to avoid 'gotchas. All devices must have globally unique names, even the old ones. This can be checked by displaying all devices ever registered and all devices ever returning a result. My inactive devices are named things like OLD-BLAH-BLAH-10.
