on t radio t other day the experts decided to include the other 99% of the genome that were previously thought useless
that means weve only crunched 1% in 5 years i hear that this 99% is made up of genes that time the allready Known genes so before i treble the size/speed of my computer does anybody else Know what they were on about let alone does the college that were supplying all these results to!!! cheers demt http://www.twra5t.co.uk seems we could be thought more usefull than we previously thought |

don't know what we demt and what not, but if talking about the RNA, yes they do have functions. No dementing that.... standby as Lawrence keeps track of that part of the genes too :D

We are crunching the proteins created from the DNA sequences. There are also stretches of DNA creating RNA used for (mostly) unknown purposes. These molecules are called ncRNA (non-coding RNA, in other words, RNA that does not code for protein). We are not crunching them for HPF (which is concerned with the proteome) but Rosetta@home ( http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/ ) is working on adapting Rosetta to fold RNA. I expect there will be some projects run by somebody eventually using computers to explore RNA.
